I bought my Cupra tdi about 4 months ago, and it has had the EML on for a fault in the EGR since then. I could clear the fault but it would return after about 3 miles.

I had a new EGR valve fitted about 3 weeks ago, and now no EML. However, my fuel economy is worse. Where I was getting about 52mpg, I am now getting 47mpg, same roads, same driving style etc

I know that people say when having an EGR delete that the fuel economy is better. Could it be that the faulty EGR valve was actually doing the job of an EGR delete, thereby giving me the better fuel economy? The car doesn't feel any different to drive.

Is it possible to have a software EGR delete to get that economy back - and keep the EML from coming on? I know that in the VAGCOM software its possible to turn the EGR down - is this the same thing as an EGR delete? But, I don't know anyone in Cornwall that can do the software delete for me.

think I might have found someone. seems like it can be turned down to about 10%, so that would be good

Maybe try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and take it for run. It's a myth that the ECU relearns, but it won't do any harm to turn it off and on again.

Probably just winter, I have seen my milage drop from 550miles a tank to just over 500miles a tank. I now have my lights and heater on virtually all the time and figured thats what is causing the drop in MPG
