New Exeo owner after a remap

Morning everyone.

I just swapped my Fabia VRS in for an Exeo 2.0Tdi 143 S, and although I much prefer sitting in the Exeo, I'm finding I miss the torque from the VRS (which to be fair I mapped to 179bhp and 334lb/ft).

I'm thinking of remapping the Exeo, getting a generic map from somewhere like Awesome gti.

I'll update you with prices and progress, and what the likely performance mpg gains are.

tbh I'd forgotten about them, the bluefin wasn't available on the fabia.

Put Bluefin on my 170ps sport. Went well. 4 minutes to revert to factory settings was useful.

Have mine "tuning boxed" for the first time [all others were remaps - only reason I change cars too much within the VAG grp.] and Im well impressed will cruise at 80 and give me 50 plus mpg loads of low down grunt, will have to check the tyres though!! - when I had my first Leon FR 1P the fronts only lasted 10k@~

Tuning box - cheaper alternative to a remap, but you can transfer it between cars yourself. Bluefin is looking most likely at the moment, as against £300 for a generic remap.

I see, I thought a Bluefin was just a generic map that you could apply yourself?

Depends what you mean by Generic - its generic to the VAG engine model you order I believe.

Yes Bluefin is a generic map, but you install it yourself and can use it on another car with the same engine. That's about £449, as opposed to a generic map for about £300 which is stuck with the car.

£455 now apparently - but of course it can be removed for the stealers and has the valet mode (not that I can ever think I'd use it). What option is £300?

Awesome gti is closest for me, they'll do a generic for £300 according to website. Alternatively Cook Motors are a Seat dealers in Oldham, they do revo remaps, but they wanted £400 last time I asked.

A lot of the guys on Briskoda recommend P-Torque in Wolverhampton (I think), or ***** (Mansfield) but tbh with a wife, an ex-wife, 3 kids, golf, football, work, and the gym I can't be bothered with the journey

The later 143CR engines use an encrypted ECU which cannot be upgraded by all tuners.

To my knowledge bluefin will not work on these ECU's. The ECU must be removed for tuning.

We tune a huge amount each week, and they have to done by a professional experienced tuner to ensure the ECU is tuned correctly, and put back into the car looking 100% untouched.

Tuning boxes are asking for trouble I'm afraid. They simply up the fuellng without accurate adjustment which is bad news for the later DPF equipped cars.

Silly question time ... if a simple mod to the engine mapping can give you improved power and mpg, why don't the car manufacturers (who spend hundreds of thousands of pounds and years developing their cars) do it themselves?

Because THEIR design requirement has to cover "joe average" across a lot of european country's environmental requirements, where has a tuner can pick the best parameters and improve on them - hopefully P Torque can support these comments ???

I'll support this, and add that it's related to not just air quality, but also reliability under extremes of climate as well as fuel quality variations and "Joe Average" not sticking to the service schedule.

Correct, a manufacturer cannot possibly tune each engine specifically, a) because of time and b) because of cost.

Also, the manufacturers don't always get it right regardless of their development...DPF's are a perfect example of this!

I have, ahem, a friend... who has a Seat Exeo as a company car, so cannot remap it. My friend is very interested in hearing the thoughts of any 143CR Exeo owners who have applied Bluefin. My friend has used Bluefin on Fords before with great results and is particularly keen on the ability to remove the map and revert to stock settings... not something I'd be interested in, of course
