New Exhaust

After recently purchasing a 2014 Cupra 280 I felt that the exhaust note wasn't what is could potentially be. Therefore reading up on here I read a few posts where people had removed the middle silencer and this improved the over all sound from the 280.

Looking for a local exhaust place who could do this for me knowing it wasn't an expensive modification I had a search on google. I came across an exhaust company based on the Wirral that specialised in custom exhaust systems, mainly for racing cars but had produced some road car exhaust as well. In fact they had a section on their website advertising to borrow peoples cars so they could develop an exhaust for a specific car.

Looking down the list the Cupra was not on there, however being pushy and a bit optimistic I sent them an email to see if they were interested in developing one. They emailed back to my surprise saying they definitely were and asked if I would pop down with the car for an assessment. So about a month ago a drover over to the wirral for an assessment, they put it straight up on the ramp and said there was plenty of potential and that the stock system as we know is very restricted. As I don't drive the car much during the week being in a company said they could have the car for a full week to see what they could come up with.

I picked up the car on Saturday after the week of development and WOW what a difference, just what it should sound like and some. You can see yourself from the photos there is now no back box, a smaller middle silencer and a smaller front silencer with the option to remove the front silencer if you feel inclined. The system is full stainless steel and of very high quality, it is in fact now available to buy as a kit on their website with plenty more details about it. A video with follow shortly but enjoy the photos.

The company is called Cybox Exhaust Systems and the link is http://cybox.co.uk/product/seat-leon-cupra-r-280-cat-back-exhaust-system/

They were very helpful through the whole process and the person I dealt with was called Jerry.

Sorry about the essay just thought people would find the story interesting as I know there are off the self exhaust for the Cupra but as far as I can see it may be the first custom exhaust.

Good write up. How does the sound differ to standard? I'm not far from the wirral and keep considering a cat back system on my st.

The sounds is vastly improved over standard, I will be posting a video soon to try and demonstrate.

I'm Liverpool based myself. What was the price and looking forward to a listen to the sound.

Edit: I see the price on their website.

I want some more sound but I want it to be quite on the motorway. How's the crusing drone?

Any idea on the weight saving?

I was worried about this also, but I happy to report there is minimal motorway drone. That is with the middle silencer attached and I will report back once that has been removed as I'm planning to take it out this weekend.

Not fully sure about the weight saving but after feeling the weight of the stock system I would probably say around 20-25kg

Looks good but I can't help think the tips look wonky? like they don't follow the same line as the bumper... might be an illusion though.

I know most NW people use BCS so this is nice to see another company doing decent work in the NW area.

Yes I did think the same this will be rectified this weekend along with the silencer removal just a slight adjustment needed.

Yes definitely always happy to see independents around

I also noticed the pipes seemed to have a slight slant. System looks good but I need to hear it.
Edit: Noticed you said the car is going for remedial work on silencer to rectify issue with slant. Top job ;)

Sounds good!

Are you happy with this exhaust?
Would you recommend it for 290 ST?

How is the different with the silencer and without?

Yes I am very happy with the exhaust. Having gone down the custom route I would never buy off the shelf. Yes defiantly it will make a massive difference you won't be disappointed

The difference is the drone unfortunately but as I only drive the car at weekends mainly it is something I can put up with but not as a daily drive. I do have the option to put the silencer back in if I so wish, again another reason why custom gets my vote!

Hope this helps

Can you make a video without the resonator?
How bad is the droning and at what speeds?
Did you have to cut anything or can you easily put back the stock exhaust?

Thanks :)

I will try make a video tomorrow. There is drone at 30mph in 4th and 50mph in 6th other than that is not too bad but obviously they are popular speeds and gears in a daily commute.

Yes the stock system was cut off but could be welded back on. I have sold mine however so no chance on mine lol

Sounds fine, any plans for a Dyno run to see if makes a difference to power?

No plans at the moment but hopefully at some point this year I will be getting a remap therefore seeing Dyno figures. At a guess I would estimate no more than 10hp over stock

Thanks.

Is it a must to cut off? I can't remove the stock exhaust without cutting?

I wouldn't say for certain but I looks like it to me. I didn't actually ask the company about this as I didn't intend on going back to stock. After looking at the system off the car it was welded all in one piece so I would presume its like that all the way to the headers
