I need a new flip key for my LCR, as a spare.

I've dismantled the current one, serial is: 50W 1J0 959 753 DJ

Searching eBay for this number doesn't come up with a blank key, just spare remote fobs/casings etc.

Does anyone know where I can buy a 50W 1J0 959 753 DJ complete blank key?

Friend of mine had full VCDS so should be able to program it with that?

Will happily give that a go but thought i needed a key part number match?

Unless you have your SKC (secret key code) or the tag that comes on the car keys with the code on it, it's a 4 digit number iirc then just VCDS on its own won't program the transponder, you need to log in on VCDS and you need the code to do so, you can still program the fob just not virgin transponders.

The fobs use a certain frequency, 433mhz or 434mhz on most vag's of the mo 4 platform iirc and that's the important bit, transponders are all much of a muchness, I thought seat never did the mk1 Leon with a flip key from factory hence the retrofit sticky on here ;)

Yep to get the key code, other than that I wish you the best of luck, there is other ways of getting the key code but unfortunately you'll need to do some digging on Internet :)

Seat did do a flip key as standard. Also, I didn't feel it was worth the hassle of getting blank key, cutting it, organising the skc, and then coding transponder so I just bought a spare from local dealers. Luckily I have a decent relationship with workshop manager so he worked something out for me. Still wasn't cheap of course

So they did, items 36-37 on this diagram, might of been supreceeded though and haven't checked on my etka tbf.

It's not a load of hassle if you've already got the gear, as with me I had it all from when I had my Passat, I could order everything and get it coded without leaving the house +++

Some back street locksmiths can do them for around the £100 mark iirc

Thanks for the pointers, looks like if I spend £20 on a key, £10 on cutting, and £30 to get my SKC I'll be done.

£60 vs the cost of a key from the dealer is a no brainer for me...

What's the point in a 3rd key? 2 will be enough for my needs I'm sure :)

Iirc and I could be wrong but I thought cars left the factory with three keys? one may have been just a valet key though, no real point, if the misses drives the car then you can both have keys and keep a spare.
