Do what i did with my new Ibiza FR TDI, went online found the cheapest UK dealer sourced car wnet to my local dealer said showed them that, it was matched and Bish Bash Bosh £1079 off List!
Yes one of three dealers we tried was prepared to deal off the bat, even with a substantial trade in (04 A4 1.8T 190PS GmbH Sport). I got the best price for my Audi and approx £1200 off list with Wiltshire & Sons in Farnham. Others wouldn't using the trade in as a lever and not doing anything much on the list of the FR.
If you have not got a car to trade in you could probably do what Dambuster says.

there were some big discounts available for Sep and Oct, although we paid full price, the trade in figure was approx £1000 over book

Which dealer was that? Did you have a car to part ex? Is that £16282 for the car and then the options on top? did you get any discount off the options?
If the dealers are doing well and what to increase unit fiqures you can get 12% off, I've ordered a Red TDi FR with 18" alloys as the only option and got it for £15714 (13% off), awaiting delivery date.
I got that price from Droitwich but ordered it elsewhere for the same price.

The dealer was alexandra bridge cars in sunderland. It was 16282 for the car with the options on top, i got 50 quid off the convenience pack and they threw the ipod connector in for free but he didnt give me anything off the 18 inch alloys. As for the part ex i traded in my toyota avensis tourer t3x which they got underwritten by a trader for £6000 but this didnt affect the discount as we were originally going to sell the car private anyway. Oh and you also get lots of rattles for free!
