• Hey Guest💡👉 We have recently launched our new Dealer Directory and review service Find out more now
Had contact from the garage/dealer and they have managed to experience the fault on our FR, as such now waiting for further investigation/diagnostics, will add updates as they come as I know how frustrating this is for the OP and others affected.
A quick update, we have our FR back now, the dealer managed to experience the fault, and we believe they have pinpointed it. We now have the car back and are reasonably confident (or at least as much as you can be with intermittent faults) this has been resolved. Now i am by no means tecnical, but the over all jist is a wiring loom had become displaced/ moved more than it should too closely to the alternator, generating a charge and causing a surge or something along those lines causing the car to cut out. Hope this helps with others having similar concerns, our dealer have been top draw in persisting on this for us, and hope this is the end of this one.

I experienced a similar issue today, I have the 2025 fr back edition 150psi petrol manual. Was changing lanes and went to accelerate and nothing happened. Felt like stop start but was moving to quickly, around 15 to 20 mph.
Hi, please could you message me and tell me the outcome to this problem.. as we have the same issue. Thank you

Hi guys,

First ever Seat and love it but it I’ve got a problem already.
I purchased a Seat Leon FR Sport back in May. This is a 74 plate reg. Since having the car, I’ve noticed, now 6 or 7 times, that the engine cuts out while driving at low speeds when approaching, or pulling away from roundabouts and junctions. It isn’t a typical stall as the car already tends to be slowly moving. The dash eventually then tells me to ‘manually restart the engine’. To start with, thought it was me!

I’ve had it back at my local dealership. The car was looked over and the computer checked for errors. No fault codes were found. They also said the Seat technicians were unable to replicate the fault. I was told that they had seen similar issues before with the cars but no obvious fault was found. Has anyone heard of this?

Last week, the car stalled at low speed as I was going round a mini-roundabout. The car didn’t need to come to a complete stop at the junction. I lost all power and it took me two attempts to get the car restarted. This was dangerous and I was limping around the mini roundabout with traffic coming. I had to pull over as soon as I could to get the car restarted.

After the visit to the dealership, I am at a loss because they can’t carry out a repair as no fault is being shown but there clearly is a problem here.

I’ve been manually disabling the start/stop assist at the start of every journey to see if this helps. However, today, the start/stop was disabled and the engine cut out again after I had switched from second to first gear. I was promoted with the same message: ‘manually restart engine’. This was while approaching traffic lights which were red.

Has anyone heard of this?

Thanks in advance! ?
Please can you help.. we have the same problem with our Seat Leon 25 plate. The dealer is saying they can’t find anything on the diagnostics. We have told them others have had this problem, however they have said could you get the chassis number off someone like yourself so they can check it out. Sorry to bother you but so frustrated with this car. Thank you

Chassis number, in other words the VIN?

And the dealer is asking you to find it for them? The dealer knows where it is and besides, they only need your registration to cross check it as well.

PC1860* is asking for the VIN from elrolzio's vehicle.

With the VIN of the rectified vehicle, the other dealer can check what repair was carried out on the now fixed vehicle and try it for themselves on the faulty vehicle.

Without the basic vehicle details (reg/vin) the dealer can't look into it further.

Doh! I've re-read the post!

Thanks.

Hi there,

I’ve just bought a brand new 75 plate Cupra Formentor 1.5tsi petrol/manual and am having the exact same issue.

In the few weeks I’ve had it, it must have cut out at least 10 times at roundabouts/Junctions.

I’ve owned Seats for 15 years so have tried all the different variations of drive assists etc, and it’s still doing it.

Just randomly cuts out and says ‘engine needs to be started manually’.
Obviously this is ridiculous dangerous as fear I’ll end up getting rear ended.

I am going to contact Cupra this week but thought I’d ask on here first so I had at least some information to give them if someone has managed to get it solved.

TIA.

Has been a while buts since this post our car was rejected, the problem occurred again, with the system saying to take to dealer immediately. We agreed to have a replacement car, and then only a few weeks in and have started to have the same issue with the replacment car, cannot really believe this!! Hope others are having more luck but the more i read, the more i fear this is an inherent issue. Will try and update in hope that others can benefit from it.

Hi,
My new Cupra Leon 1.5tsi has been cutting out randomly when pulling away which is really annoying as it seems like a well known problem that has been fixed by vw group.

Hi Paul, you've joined someone else's introduction thread. No worries. Welcome to the site. If you head on over to the CUPRA Leon section, I'm sure someone will be able to help you out / you'll find someone with similar issues.

Cheers

Scott

So glad I found this thread - I thought it was just me. I bought a new 25 plate Seat Leon 1.5 petrol manual (now done 9000 miles) and experiencing exactly the same problem, an intermittent engine cut out (about a dozen times in total) often when rolling along in 2nd gear (engine idling) when approaching a roundabout/junction. Very unsettling to find the engine has died just as you pull out in to traffic. Although it can be restarted with a push of the start button the experience is unnerving to say the least.

I've just booked it in to our Seat dealership for its first oil change and asked them to investigate this problem. However they want £170 for an hour's investigation and if they don't find a problem (or do find one that's not covered by the warranty) I will have to pay the £170. From what I've read above the chances of them diagnosing the problem seem very remote.

Has anyone else made any progress with this issue recently ?

Hi,
Yep mines the same have to keep revs up a bit seems the manual box suffers from it only. Don't see why you should pay £170 for diagnostics it's a new car i haven't took mine in yet.

WTF?! The car is under warranty, so why is this dealership asking for payment to diagnose?

Our manual ATECA 1.5 TSI will sometimes stall, or try to stall, if for example slowing to turn into another road but not carrying enough speed in second gear so when the clutch is lifted it stutters unless you get the revs up quickly.
I posted the above a few months ago. I don't wish to seem like I'm teaching people how to change gear, but I thought there was a technical issue and there wasn't.

Just thought I'd re-post this in case it's of any use, or food for thought. It does seem to be a 1.5 TSI manual box issue.

I don't think this issue is a "normal" stall due to overloading the engine. In my experience a stalled engine (just poor driving) can be restarted by depressing the clutch (if auto stop/start is on). Whereas in this case that will not work - the engine start/stop button has to be pressed to get it running again.

We had a mk3 Leon (1.2 petrol manual) for eight years previously - fantastic car, not a glitch in 120,000 miles. Was hoping the later model maybe even better...

I'm sure there was another thread where someone else had the same issue too.
Hi James,

There is another thread concerning the same issue;

Not sure how these things work but is it possible to "merge" them or link them in some way ?

Should anyone find a successful cure for this issue then please update this thread with the solution so it helps others in the same situation.
