Evening all. Right to start at the beginning I am just about to start to build a race spec leon 1m. I currently race a saxo vts in barc tintops class.
So I going to strip the car and get a cage welded in. Perspex windows etc.
Was wondering is there any other members who have race cars or good track cars

Welcome to the Forum,

We have a trackday section here https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/attending-a-trackday.438811/page-10 where all the guys who like to have a run around post details.

You should have a look at Readers rides https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?forums/readers-rides-seat.229/

With regards to the 1m specifically check out Sparkies car https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/sparkies-mk1-lcr-black-edition.438687/ its not like yours in terms of stripped out but its a great car and i have been lucky enough to go round Bedford in it.

If you have not already found them you should have a chat with the guys at Badger 5 https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?forums/badger5.138/ they know a lot about these motors.

I got many bits to find. Brembo 4 pot set up for the fronts. Going fibreglass bumpers and the wider front wings. But then the engine. These seam to be a mine field.. ..ko3 or ko4 hybrid or not. What's the best engine to star with..bam or AGU lol. Well I got an AGU and also have ordered a 034 motorsport inlet manifold. Pistons and rods are next on the shopping list. As is sending the crank off for knife edging and balancing.
Suspension seams a fare few choices
Gonna be a long build but will be worth it

Not my model so cant give

@Sparkie is my MK1 Expert and he gave some good info here https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/mk1-lcr-project.447835/ on this build. You already know you need rods I presume you are aware you need forged ones as these engines seem to suffer over a certain amount of torque (details in the thread).

You will need a big Intercooler and catch can as well, Re turbo it seems most regret the hybrid (but i am not an expert) they are good but (as with all choices). Wheels and rubber obviously to loose more weight and keep the motor on the track.

Start a ride thread please so we can all follow (and wish we could).

My pile of parts lol has ally radiator. Fmic set up. R8 coil packs and clamps. AGU engine. Catch can. Light weight pulley set up. 350cc injectors to suit the 034 manifold. Short shift set up. Still looking I to different make engine mounts at the moment.
I had the car on the road for a few years and then I just parked it up. I have always lined the look of the 1m. At one race meeting there was a vw class so there was some of the 1m cup cars. So having a nose around they are lovely. I asked a few questions. Then one bloke who was very stuck up just said you will never build a car as good as one of these. I do agree I don't have the money to. But he also said how they handle etc and I would never build a car to lap as quick either. Well in my trusty 1.6 saxo my lap times around brands was consitantly 1.7-2 seconds slower than him.. yep different races but on the same day.... So with an extra 100bhp or so and a nice set up and boost. I just wanna wipe the smile of the smug guts face lol

Yes afraid we have all met people like that and tend to ignore them, lots of nice guys on the circuit and some great MK1's out there that leave many more modern cars standing.

Did not see you mention have you got any plans for Limited Slip Diff or maybe (as some have done back in the day) a 4 wheel drive conversion - which I will say in my opinion takes the fun away that driving these cars gives you.

I will try a gripper lsd I think. I run a quaife atb in the saxo and it works well. But with the extra grunt I think the atb may struggle. 4wd means cutting the floor etc. And takes away the fun of making the back end move . I know the 1m cup cars are a 4wd chassi so have independent rear suspension but remain 2wd. My main problem is I don't know much about the car nor about turbos. I am going to remove the abs and wiring set up strip all wiring I don't need and run a stand a lone ecu . More thank likely omex 600. I am aiming for the 300bhp magic Mark. But will see what I can build

300bhp is very doable based on what i have seen but again you will be getting into forged stuff to handle the torque.

Pardon my ignorance but whats the advantage of the stand alone ecu and do you have any issues with the component protection (if there is any) on the car.

It will make it easier for different mappers to map. Also will remove the immobilizer. Plus all the other buts and bobs not needed. On My saxo I lost 4kg from removing ecus and control boxes and excess wiring

The bam has small journal and is electric throttle body and runs vvt. Where as the agu is large journal. Throttle cable.an not vvt . Both have forged cranks. I am gonna send the crank off to be knife edged and balanced. Will an so get it crack tested to make sure there is no faults in the casting of the crank.

It's got the 20mm small end bearings as standard. Forged crank and large port head as standard...and it came to me for free lol. So the idea is to strip and build the agu to about 300-320 bhp want it drivable and non laggy and reliable. But first is to get the shell stripped acid dipped. And get a cage welded in. Lighten the shell and doors. Then paint.....etc etc. The list is endless. So am scouring the for sale ads for bits and pieces to help me
