Hi folks!
I've just acquired a 56 plate Ibiza DAB sport in Black for the wife...

The problem is I can't open the tailgate. It doesn't appear to lock or unlock with the central locking, but there is a key hole under the handle. I've tried turning it both ways but it still won't open.
Any ideas??

Have you tried pushing the unlock button twice on the remote in quick succsession or the unlock button inside the car?

Yep. tried that. I was wondering if the keyhole has a deadlock function and I've inadvertently deadlocked it. If so, which position is unlocked - horizontal or vertical?

The key should be vertical for it to work as normal with the remote.
If it is horizontal it is locked and if you turn it nearly all the way round clockwise that should unlock the boot.

Yes, putting the Key into the lock in the boot, you turn it to the RIGHT (clockwise) to manually lock it.
Turning the key to the left should unlock it. You might have to try turning the key anti-clockwise as far as it will revolve?

I also find I have to use the keyfob TWICE (for central locking), as the Boot unlocks on the 2nd press - while the doors unlock on 1 press....

Had this on mine a few weeks back. Lucky i am under warrentee they replaced the whole mech. Its fairly common do a search to see I think you can gain access via the boot and popping one of the rear light panels in the tailgate and getting your hand in to pull one of rods. Best do a search. Good luck

that was going to be my next question, because it's not unlocking no matter what position the key slot is in...
I'll have a go on my days off. I have a few other "issues" to sort first anyway (like replacing the radiators, crash bar, bumper etc etc

When i phoned and booked mine in the stealers they kinda stopped me half way through my description of the problem, key settings etc and said "yeah no problem bring it in". I think in reply to my thread quite a few others had the same prob. If you have warrenty best let them sort it as they replace the whole mech.

Its really annoying though if like me you had a weeks shopping stuck in the boot.

Bizzaboy, are you sure that its not only the driver's door that unlocks on the first press, then on the second press the other doors and the boot unlocks?

I used to have to press the button twice to get the passenger door and boot to unlock however when I got it serviced last year I got the dealer to change it so both doors and the boot unlocks on the first press.
The dealer can also turn on or off the automatic door locking when you drive away so when you stop at traffic lights etc the doors remain locked.
