Hi guys,

bought my 03 Cupra yesterday and love it already!!! Just after a heads up really, being new to the cupras i wanna know what to expect. Things like the coils have already been done and doors have been treated against the leaks reported with the car. What Im really after is how to get big bhp out of my motor. I have a rough budget of £6/7k and want to keep the body work standard, with the exception of alloys unless things need to be done to enhance wind resistance etc. So please some tips and advice for a smiling new cupra owner.

Cheers
Roly:)

I paid £7500 for it, its on a 52 plate reg in 2003. I was thinking a bigger turbo, the setup on the Audi RS4 is ideally what im after, but my budget doesnt support it. I want to spend another £7500 or so maybe. More than willing to listen to ideas. I live in Portsmouth so any decnt tuning garages would be gr8

yeh i thought about it, as good as they are I wanted to go for something a little different and a car that I dont have all the boy racers constantly trying to race. Insurance on Evo's is comical too and fuel consumption. I want a fast leon which I can track regularly. Cheers for the link by the way

I know what you mean by the insurance. The misses wants the evo 8 but when I rang for insurance it was astranomical! It was cheaper for me to get insured on a Ferrari. Thats why I bought my Leon, but I still get the boy racers trying it now and again but I enjoy it cos then I have another reason to put my foot down;)

yeh its amazing what the insureres get away with, I have a friend who works for a brokers, my leon is £455 fully comp with breakdown etc, and im only 22. An evo 6 with 50% bhp increase was £1900 FC which isnt too bad. Get in touch if you want a number to get a quote. Just given JKM a call and they seem very helpful, suggested chipping to 218bhp and getting the suspension and brakes uprated. Seems like a safe bet.

Do you guys have regional meets?
I know what you mean bout the boy racers, unforunately Portmouth is full of em and you cant get too far without coming across someone who wants to be embarrassed. Had a bmw 325ci before the leon and made them look silly, now its the leon's time to shine :D

hmmm v true, quite interested in seeing others cars n what they have planned etc. Can you let me know if anything crops up?

Sounds like you've got exciting plans afoot:)
If you look at the big turbo section you'll see a couple of project cars on the go just now
I'm sure JKM will keep you right, if they are close to you then even better
For the sort of money your looking to spend you could go either way
With £2,000 spent on handling upgrades this leaves you with £5,500 for engine stuff which would easily get you a big turbo set up with a great exhaust system aswell
Looking forward to hearing your progress

Yeh they sound like they will sort me out very nicely. I like the idea of a big turbo, want to be able to keep up with the big boys and pull out some good 1/4 miles. I have a m8 who works for Essex exhausts, already having my system built. I will be posting pics on here of all progress made. Anymore advice will be greatly appreciated.

Remember that when you change the turbo so you'll have to change the DP there fore a different flanged connection
Sorry to teach you how to suck eggs if you know this
If its 1/4 mile times your looking at you better price some super stick tyres too.
Perhaps think about changing your engine mounts, even just for the standard ones and definately bog bone mount bush upgrade. Even think about changing all bushes for poly ones if its a race/track car your building. This along with S3 strutt brace and uprated ARB's well set you on the way;)
With wind resistance in mind try searching for bonnet seal on this section
KW coilovers are very well thought of and also the Leon needs 4 wheels alignment when all this is done
If you've got any problems spending your money just give us a shout, were good at spending other peoples money:)

top notch advice my friend. Reading that made me drool, it's good to know that you guys know ur stuff. I built a twin 2.0 nova based on calibra turbo engines and that was missions, so glad that building this wont be half the hassle the nova was. But then again i cant really compare the 2. I will be consulting you soon on what the best place to start will be. I will be starting to spend mid january

I'm buying a Celica GT-4. I'm NOT buying an Evo because I don't want astronomical running costs and service bills. I don't want 5,000 mile service intervals and I want something less common.

6-7k is big turbo money, surely. 300+ BHP, easily. Sounds like an interesting prospect :D

Good luck and welcome :)

You built a twin engined nova? Fair play. If you're in the Nova crowd you'll probably know a couple of my mates, one of which has a kawasaki green 2ltr nova.

Is he part of MigWeb do you know? Yeh I have a 1400 SRI tried to sell it and then decided to go nuts on it and twin engine the beast, dyno'd 299bhp @ 4509rpm. Really silly car, drove it about 6 or 7 times then had a huge offer for it so it had to go. :( Loved that car!!! Is your mate called Dave, I only went to a couple of meets with those guys as I had work commitements all the time. But now im in a diff job I can focus on my car more and hopefully get some rapport from you guys for my cupra once its complete.
