New to SEAT, thoughts on 1.8 TSI?

I ordered the 1.8 TSI without even test driving it. Dealer said the same as what some others have mentioned with it not being a popular engine and they wouldn't have a demonstrator with it in for me to try.

Although it was cheaper and faster than the 184 diesel, there isn't a lot in it and suspect the diesel and it's super economy is what people are buying.

I've had mine 3 years now with DSG box and love the engine. I have to admit I drive around most of the time in Normal mode, but when someone winds me up I notch the gear stick back into Sport mode and leave them for dust.

It makes a lovely growl as well when you floor it.

If I hadn't ordered the Cupra 300, I would have stuck with the 1.8 TSi. Everyone that gets in it comments on how quick it is. If you do more longer journeys then the diesel would be better option as its just as quick, but for shorter trips and round town the 1.8 would TSi would be my choice.

I was going to go for the diesel but I don't think I'll do more than 10,000 miles a year so the petrol is probably better for me, plus I do a lot of town driving so the petrol would make more sense. I was a little gutted I couldn't test drive the 1.8 as there wasn't any, the 1.4 I test drove was the 150hp but you wouldn't think it I didn't think it was that powerful

I knew I wanted the 1.8 when I was looking for a Leon, obviously none to drive at any local dealers so drove a manual Cupra 290 (lovely car but more than I needed in a DD) and a 1.4 DSG, was ok but but felt like it needed working too hard to get the best out of it. My local dealer sourced me a 6 month old 1.8 with DSG (as in my sig below) and love it. Is nice and relaxed with plenty of low down grunt around town, relaxed and long legged on the motorway and eager and fun on fast A and B roads. More than happy with it.

Yeah I agree man, the 1.4 didn't feel very responsive and I had to have my foot down a while to get anything out of it. What MPG are you averaging with the 1.8? There wasn't any 1.8s at the showroom I went to so I won't know what it's like to drive until it gets here! End of May and it'll be mine

Mine spends most of it's life around town and I have a rather heavy right foot, I think it's current average is about 27mpg, it goes up drastically if I do a long run, well in to the 40's. TBH with the amount of mileage I do a year in it (sub 8k) I don't tend to worry about mpg much, plus our other car is a BMW i3 so I feel I'm allowed to not worry about how much petrol I'm using too much....... :D

I found it impossible to get a test drive in a 1.8 none of my local dealers had one available. Im getting just over 28 MPG in my dsg 1.8 5dr FR and that's with mainly short trips so using it I eco mode the dsg box is very smooth an am really enjoying the drive and its way more economical and smoother than my previous car which was a 1.8 Honda civic.
