I ordered the 1.8 TSI without even test driving it. Dealer said the same as what some others have mentioned with it not being a popular engine and they wouldn't have a demonstrator with it in for me to try.
Although it was cheaper and faster than the 184 diesel, there isn't a lot in it and suspect the diesel and it's super economy is what people are buying.
I've had mine 3 years now with DSG box and love the engine. I have to admit I drive around most of the time in Normal mode, but when someone winds me up I notch the gear stick back into Sport mode and leave them for dust.
It makes a lovely growl as well when you floor it.
If I hadn't ordered the Cupra 300, I would have stuck with the 1.8 TSi. Everyone that gets in it comments on how quick it is. If you do more longer journeys then the diesel would be better option as its just as quick, but for shorter trips and round town the 1.8 would TSi would be my choice.
I was going to go for the diesel but I don't think I'll do more than 10,000 miles a year so the petrol is probably better for me, plus I do a lot of town driving so the petrol would make more sense. I was a little gutted I couldn't test drive the 1.8 as there wasn't any, the 1.4 I test drove was the 150hp but you wouldn't think it I didn't think it was that powerful
