I live in Kent, and would like to know if anyone has had there turbo replaced recently and can recommend a garage or decent private mechanic to carry out the work. Also im curious as to what prices people have paid and what option they went for. I.e new, exchange or rebuild etc

I have a 2007 2.0l tdi 140 bkd. It is suffering with the dreaded siren noise, without any dismantling Seat believe it is bearing failure although no loss in performance yet.

I recorded a vid a while ago and would say its a bit louder now but not much, its difficult to get on camera. Not sure how to post a link but here goes. Seat Leon 2.0 tdi turbo siren whistle noise problem - YouTube

It is low but from what I've read its common on the bkd engine and many people are on their 3rd and 4th turbos having replaced them. For this reason I think ill leave things as standard, with my luck something else will go wrong otherwise.

Technically they should last the lifetime of the car with the right care, but for some reason they are very unreliable. Guess its luck of the draw

I always let my engine cool down and warm up because I'm ocd about turbo fans melting to the point that I'd buy a turbo timer lol.

Yeah I do too. My mates smash there's from cold and theirs survive. I think the 18000 miles in 3 years killed mine. Luckily even though it was out of warranty seat paid for it all. Was £1550 otherwise from them.

I would totally go to dark side abd get the bigger turbo kit Inc mapping to safe limits of 220bhp for 1200quid! Will be stronger than the prone to breaking standard ones.

Mine warranty finished in June 2012 and I got the work done in jan 13.

I complained and since it had FSH ect they said they would cover 70% which left me for a bill for £500 but the turbo company said they would cover the rest if it. I also complained to the seat dealer I bought it from because it didn't come with the '1 year approved warranty' so they give me £200 goodwill.

So overall got a new turbo and £200 lol.

I might know a guy who can fit it. Friend of a friend is qualified mechanic. I'm also in the Kent area. He lives kinda local I think.

Are you after supply of the turbo AND installation, or just to fit? New turbo or reconditioned?

Ideally supply and fit. But really could do with it being someone who it can go back to If something goes wrong if you know what I mean

OK I'll have a word and see if he knows anyone or any place that are decent. There's a few VAG specialists in Dartford, I've used one before and they caused a problem so I wont go back to them.

EDIT: Should get prices tomorrow, I'll PM you when i get them.

Cheers. Ideally I think the cheapest option is to get recon and then sell my turbo on ebay.
