Not all turbos fail due to dirty oil !
Theres oil starvation. The BKD motors are known for Oil pump problems.
There's overboost. The Turbo veins get blocked from short journeys all the time. This causes overboost (the fans blades can hit the housing, or put extra load on the bearings causing them to fail).
Intake issues. Knackered filters / **** induction kits.
Most companies that supply recon turbos will tell you that the turbo should last the life of the engine. If its failed, its usually due to one of the above and the cause of the failure should be located before fitting a new unit. If its an oil pressure issue, or intake issue, whats the point of fitting a new unit without fixing the cause of it.
I know its been mentioned on this or another thread about old Ford engines (cosworth) had turbo failures back in the 80' /90's. This was mostly due to engines been remapped and mucked about with. The T3 that came on most Cosworths wasn't up to anything past stage 1. Mine still had the original turbo on at 110k and i only changed it when i went stage 3 and switched to a T34.48.
I have had loads of turbo cars over the years, and the only one that I have had that failed was my BKD Passat TDI sport.
