new tyres in pairs?

Morning folks..

Two questions..

I have a bald rear tyre that needs replacing fairly urgently but the other rear tyre is fine.
Now do I just replace the one worn out tyre or should I fork out for a matching set?
- i'm also concerned about the difference in wear on the rear tyres as it's a such massive difference.

Also has anyone heard of Zetum's? they are made by Kumho and the local garage will fit them for £65 all in, and they say that they are identical to the slightly more expensive branded Kumho tyres.

thanks in advance for any help.

I can't comment on those tyres but it's one thing you should never skimp on or it can end horribly in a performance car!

To the other matter, if the other one is fine and has lots of tread, just replace the offending one. It's good however to have a matching set of 4 tyres, this way you will only need to replace two at a time and save some cash. I.e. Front starts to wear too much, swap for the rears, when the rear get balder, stick some new ones on and swap to the front and so on. Ideally though you never really want bald tyres on the rear of a Leon, the back is a bit twitchy at times so keep and eye on them.

I'd probably spend a lottle more on the tyres and go for a better tyre, and personally I would never replace a single tyre.

Did you replace the rear tyres last time? Is it possible the car has had a puncture and thats why they're worn differently?

you should have the same tyres on the same axle
unless the other rear tyre is brand new, get 2.

i'd recommend FK452s if you're on a budget. please stay away from ditchfinders

Yes i'm noticing the back end is a bit more unpredictable so i've been going easy round corners.

I only bought the car about a year ago and this will be the first time i've changed any of the tyres. I've previously only had cars that i'm used to just putting mid range budgets tyres on as they were not worth spending megabucks on. But with the Leon I want it to be as good as it can be handling wise.

I suspected that a matching pair would be preferable, thanks for help guys.

youve had it a year without changing tyres?! bloody hell thats impressive to start with!

If one tyre is more worn than the other surely it wouldnt take a year to notice? unless it didnt use to be like that, in which case, like you said, I'd start to be looking at why it's worn more than the opposite side....

and same as everyone else said, I'd never go with budget tyres on a car like this! for an extra couple of quid id rather stay on the right side of a brick wall or hedge!

and one more here for not replacing a single tyre on its own.
