Ok maybe on the BP ultimate I will stand corrected but between tesco and vpower I doubt there's much in it

Would be inclined to agree - don't think the difference would be at all noticeable.

I've read fuel is supposed to start to loose it's octane rating the longer its sat - I tend to think the best option is not the brand tesco/shell, but whichever station shifts the most and should therefore have fresher fuel. I also imagine the lines would be kept cleaner having more fuel flowing through them too...

Not sure exactly how much (if at all) difference it actually makes, but could go some way to explaining the 'bad batches' of fuel people claim to have had from time to time...

It's not just the octane rating that should be considered though. Shell also adds cleaning agents which with long term use will benefit your engine more than tescos fuel.

biggest killer is detonation. which is more likely to happen with shell fuel according to that link.
so you may have a slightly cleaner engine but what use is that if it throws a rod

I really hope 'Tesco 99 is better than V-power' doesn't become the next forum myth spread round as a result of one thread on another forum!

Personally, I think the two fuels are pretty similar and they are splitting hairs analysing specs over which is better/worse.

It's nice to see specs and a bit of analysis over which fuel is better and why to get a better understanding in my head, but I honestly don't think the differences would be large enough to be noticeable on the road.

I've used a few full tanks of Momentum 99 before from my regular V Power and the only thing I noticed was around the exhaust, it was covered a lot more in sooty deposits than when on the V Power.

Performance wise, noticed no difference. My car was mapped on V Power.

For me they're both very good and I'd happily use either over and over.

:)

Yeah you right you can barely drive onto a shell forecourt for the smouldering remains of performance cars:p

I'm on some cheap supermarket vodka. Gin on the other hand it has to be the expensive stuff. No melancholy for me.
