Hi, i just picked up my tdi FR Leon (2005) which is my first diesel. The car has done 64k miles and i got the dealer to do the cam belt (& metal impellar water pump on advice of a mate).

I seem to get about 40 mpg on my long run ( 75 miles motorway, 75 miles A road ) to work. The same run in my old 2001 mk4 golf gti 1.8turbo petrol gave 35 mpg So im a bit suprised / dissapointed with what im getting. My main reason for changing to a diesel was for the fuel economy as i do around 25k miles per year,(tho now confess i v much enjoy driving my 'new' FR :D

Having had the car a few days now and done a mixture of driving im 'only' gettuing about 37mpg. Im not exactly caning the thing in every gear foot flat to the floor.

Reading other's posts on here i keep reading about 47mpg /550 miles to the tank ful etc etc

So was wondering if I should be expecting more and if so what to check re the car to see if anything is causing it?

Any advice much appreciated :)

Ta in advance

Dave

Does seem low, what speed you doing on the mway? What rpm you changing up at? for maxiumum economy you need to change up before 1900rpm or approx when the turbo really starts to spool up. Other than that, i would get the engine checked for faults.

SEt your trip comp to mpg and you can see in real time what your consumption is like!

Diesel driving is different to petrol! Use the torque luke :)

just out of curiosity when driving on motorway in particular upto what crusing speed do you lot stay in fifth until?
