Newbie needs help!

Dear all,

Thanks for reading this. I lease an Ibiza Curpa (diesel) 05 plate. Its just been to Europcar for a 40k service. The car has come back and the brake disc and pads have been replaced - now the car won't stop. When I first got the car it would stop in an instance - now, I hit the brakes and just wait for the car to crawl to a stop... I don't suppose there is a way to check if Europcar have ripped me off!?! Have they put naff parts on? Is there a way to tell? Will I be able to tell if I take it to a Seat garage? Also, since its come back the engine sounds different and there is a lack in torque and power when accelerating at any speed. I used to get an immense push when accelerating around 3k revs, now there is not as much response...

I'm really cheesed by this....

I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me whether my ECU has also been played around with... or even worse, swapped for a crap one?

I really appreciate any feedback.

Hello and Welcome to SCN. Take you car back to Europcar and tell them you are not happy and shout loudly.

doubt it has been swapped thats a big job lol. As for the brakes get it to a garage asap and check how there aligned and make sure you have good pads, you should be noticing better breaking if anything diffrent. Also the engine bit might be down to the oil they used when the service was done, but I doubt it cant imagine they messed around with it loads. Might be worth a trip to seat

On the brakes, new discs and pads can take a couple of hundred miles to settle in and can be sh*t to start with. Take it very easy for a while - they are likely to improve considerably. But as said above, if you are uncertain, go back to the garage.

How do I know if I've got crap pads or discs?

Is there a spec for these items? Measurements? Barcodes?, etc?

With repsect to checking ecu is it easy to swap the chip? Is there a code that specifies the ecu that should be in the curpa?

New brakes will feel quite scary for a few hundred miles until they bed in so imagine its nothing to worry about.

i have just had zimmerman x drilled discs and redstuff ceramic pads put on the front of mine, along with standard rear discs and pads and a brake fluid change aswell. You could noticably tell the pedal was alot firmer, but the brakes would stop, but if you apply loads of pressure they would be ****. Now after doing 550 miles on them they are **** hot. Tonight i stamped on the middle pedal and i have never seen my speedo drop so fast, from 100 to about 45 in about 2 seconds, it just felll like a lead baloon.

could be the pads settling in I suppose although I have note ever had that problem mine normally stop but suck when u brake hard. Always been told no harsh braking when had em fitted.

You need to bed them in, as if you dont and abuse them not long after having them fitted, you will worp the discs, as i did this on the last set of **** discs i got. Bedded them in over a week, done maybe 100 miles on them, then took them down a country lane and abused the **** out of them, got them blue and after that the steering wheel vibrated when brakeing

That was it, discs felt **** afterwards.

had new discs and pads all round on my ibiza today, they said do not slam on the brakes for a few hundered miles as they wont work well and will warp them.
but my car still stops so i think theyve done something wrong on yours.

by the way does anyone think £217.00 for front and rear discs and pads (exl labour and vat) is good?

sounds to me like the brakes might need bleeding and a bit of the old bedding in situation! also heavy braking on new pads can cause them to crack ive had this before! take it back and kick up a fuss you paid them to do a job and that obviously hasnt been done to a crtain quality

they said they got me a really good deal, i dont know the name the part numbers are mdc979 front discs mdb2294 front pads mdc980 rear discs mdb1377 rear pads, came up with audi skoda and seat when i typed it in google

Ah ok, well just for comparison, i got, Zimmerman 312mm x drilled front discs, with EBC Redstuff ceramic pads, and normal discs and pads on the rear for £200

not such a great deal then, well i thought of upgrading the fronts but alot of people on here said it might affect the warrenty and that its not really worth it unless the car it re mapped as they are adequete.

Like Rash said...It sounds like they need bleeding. Also when you get new discs, they come with grease and s**t on them. You should wipe them with thinners or something to get all this off. If they didnt do that, they might be a bit crappy. SEAT changed my rear discs and when I pressure wash my wheels and drive my car after...the brakes are appauling. until they dry off.

I got mine fitted at a local Porsche service center and along with brake fluid and oil and filter change they charged me £105 which IMHO is very good.

As for the warranty side of things, your replacing it with OEM Vag parts, so surely they cant wriggle out of that one? I have them on mine, along with a Hybrid Turbo etc etc and i have had numerous warranty work done on mine. Engine warranty is out the window, i understand that, but am i bovered?

just realised your from west sussex too.
Wheelbase, my dads sisters husband (not my real uncle) works there and always does our cars cos i can sometimes pay cash without then paying the VAT. I'm sure you have an opinion on the garage but people moan about every garage i can't win!
