I am Marc Ridett, born in Denmark to English dad & Danish mum on 11 March 1970. I lived there until I was 23 years old and moved to England because there were no jobs in the Danish hotel industry which is where I passed my hotel management training. Spent 6 years with Sheraton Hotels, starting out in reception and working my way through the ranks until I arrived at what I thought was going to be the Holy grail, Field Sales Account Manager. However, I was now 29 years old, bread winner in the family with a 2 year old son and I looked at my situation: It's now 1999, I'm on £14.5K p.a. with no commission scheme and a 1997 Renault Clio 1.2 RN as my company car........hmmmm, not what I thought my life would turn out to be.
SO! one day in an English newspaper (this was in the days before internet cafes) I saw an ad that "a leading IT company is looking for sales staff. Prior knowledge of IT is not needed as full training provided. However, fluency in one of the following languages is a must: x, y , z, Danish etc". Long story short, it was IBM recruiting for their European call centre in Dublin and I moved from England to Ireland/hotels to IT within weeks.
I now work for a very small, but perfectly shaped, IBM reseller or business partner as IBM prefer to call us, in England as technical presales consultant, so if any of you boys & girls need help with your business' IT infrastructure and IBM products are welcome, do come knocking.
In my private life, I've been married to Fran for 18 years and our son is now.........18 years old (try guessing the reason for marriage). We live in a leafy suburb to Manchester and like this part of the country. When I'm not working, I enjoy road cycling and the occasional round of golf and in the evening I'm doing a project where I'm personally trying to deplete the world for Australian Shiraz.
I'm getting my 3rd Leon delivered Monday. This time I have gone for the full fat Cupra 290 Black and I'm handing them my Leon FR TDI 184.
Looking forward to getting to know as many of you as possible.
Marc
