London
Hey i'm a newbie from London, i have good news and bad news. The good news is i'm a newbie and own a 2002 ibiza 1.2 whoo! the bad news however is my ibiza has a little bit of problem and has left me with out it for a month  after a month of trying to find out I still do not know what is wrong with it so i'm asking if any one on this forum can help me out, it would be much appreciated.

Here goes, I own a 2002 1.2 12v ibiza which has done around 45000 miles which I have owned for almost a year.

After my car was working perfectly fine, suddenly on the same day of using it after trying to drive the car around 1/2 mile home my car suffered the following symptoms:

- Took several tries before the car started
- Once the car started it was idling very rough
- After driving it down the road it resulted in sudden losses of power, the more I drove it the more power seemed lost.
- The car would then not rev past 3k was luky to get it into 3rd gear on a straight road.
- After trying to drive up a hill the car crawled up the hill to maybe walking pace or slower.
- After Reaching the top of the hill i believe the engine cut out and died.
- I put the car in neutral and let it roll down the other side of the hill and pushed it the rest of the way home.
- The car now wont start at all.

I have had my mechanic check the car and he has checked the timing chain, the camshaft sensor, the crankshaft sensor, the cars electrics and the ECU and he cannot find any thing wrong with it.

Does any one have any suggestions or can any one help out to find what the problem is, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You need to check bobbin (just replace from similar car with 4 cilinder engine).
may be the rpoblem in fuel pump. Low preassure in fuel injection line.
You need a manometer, to connect it into fuel line and check pressure, its differ from engine to engine, but must be not lower 1.6 bar

by the sounds of it, i think its the same fault i had with mine (04 1.2), i called the RAC out and i was told it was the ignition coil, mine went at just over 30k on the clock and was repaired under warrenty, (that depends how generous your dealer is feeling) i think i still have the RAC report and dealer invoice if you want a copy?

maybe the injectors need cleaning out, how ever if the car does not rev past 3k it generally means it has gone into safe mode AKA limp mode.

Hi, guys hows it goin? thanx for your advice, soz for the late reply. I got 3 specialists to look at it, all the electrics and mechanics have been checked and all the common faults too, timing belt, coil packs, ignition coil, injectors, fuel pump and lots of other stuff ill have a list when i get em from the mechanic n specialists. They could not find any thing wrong with the car and have said every thing is fine and are not sure why its not starting, arnd £500 has been put into it already to try and fix it. If you have any other ideas please let me know as I dnt want to spend too much more as I cant afford it and it may lead to me havin to just sell it how it is :(

Thanx

you have any joy finding the fault?? i know i might be stating the obvious, have you taken it to a SEAT dealer?? i know alot of them are completely :censored: useless but they might be able to find it if nobody else can

Coil packs are a common problem with that engine, might be worth checking them?

i agree, coilpacks cause exactly what u described, my bro used to work for seat and was a seat specialist or somethin, i could ask him tomorrow and see if he could give some imput, usually sorts my car out nicely

Same Problem

Hey I feel for you, I have EXACTLY the same problem with my 2002 ibiza 1.2 and I have had the same checks as you with no joy. There must be a common problem with these or a bad batch of something. Its a pain!!!!!
Please let me know if you have any joy I will also.

I reckon the timing chain has become loose and jumped a tooth or two (common fault, do a search) are you confident that your mechanic has 2 working eyes?

LOL! I'm gona put him on the case again and see what happens...

Hi, guys, sorry this is an extremely late reply havnt been on in a while. However I thought, I would update this thread incase any else had the same problem as me. I would like to thank all you guys for the advice, ironically my car had all the symptoms of the suggested common problems and proved a costly fix which proved to be the ECU!!!. I dont exactly what happend, but a power/electricity surge caused certain wires in the car to be burnt out/fried which possibly caused a catastophic ECU failure to occur, the reason it took so long to diagnose was because, the ECU was tested in every conceivable place imaginable and came up with no faults/working perfectly, it got tested 4 times by 4 different people. After taking it to a specialist, they advised the purchase of a new "costly!!!" ECU as that was the only/last option which solved the problem. I would advise if this is anyones last option and looking to fix their car this way (if it is the problem), it is a very expensive fix in the region of £8-900 (around £600 for a new ecu + diagnosis fee for labour hours to find the problem) when you include that the car also needed mot and tax it moves to the region of £1000. Depending on the age of the car, I would consider the value of your car working compared to not as the cost of the repair may actually cost more than your car maybe worth. My car was worth more fixed, that is the reason why I went ahead with the repair. Now my lovely SEAT i am hopefully waving good bye to, and hopefully onto a LCR which ironically/hopefully prove cheaper to run lol.
