Sounds like a PITA with private leasing over there, in Finland private leasing of car hasn't really become popular yet but it's growing, in neighbour country Sweden it's the opposite, probably is more common than buying.

I calculated it's expensier for me to lease than buy with my very modest driving needs (very short distance between work and home and to nearby groceries) although I expect it to slightly change with upcoming Raval VZ. 😋 (not having to pay for expensive fuel and electricity is cheap in Finland obviously has a huge impact, I have a static cost of around ~9 cents kWh day and 7.xx something nighttime which is among the better offers you'll find here when it comes to non-spot price contracts so I calculated it's only something 3€ or whatever per typical charge. compared to paying ~2.4 €/l currently in fuel 🙃)

It could be a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire for those rejected lease cars that haven't been set up correctly by one offending dealer(s), so it appears who then pass it on via a lease company for onward use. Those cars will probably be sorted out and leased out one suspects.

Obviously a disappointment for those that didnt get a smooth rental of a car. Seems to be a question of dealer workmanship whether it's lease or bought if they dont follow Cupras commissioning instructions. Thank James for throwing light on it.

I've had some similar problems to those already mentioned on here. I have a Raval V1 which I've had since the first week of September.

Initially I was able to set up the cupra app and create a user profile then two days after getting the car, having only driven it 30 miles, the car would not start and an amber SOS warning light was showing. Cupra assistance sent someone out the same day and everything was sorted. Then two days later I noticed the sos warning light come on again but I'm able to drive the car. On top of this the infotainment system went into Incognito mode and won't allow me to change user profile. The app also is not working, due to connection issues.

When I called through to cupra assistance they said I had to bring it into a dealer and the earliest date was 15 October (today), so over a month to wait for it to be checked. Brought it into Cupra Leicester today and left it with them to try and resolve the issues. Have now picked up the car to be told they cannot resolve the issue as its due to a software glitch in the system and Cupra are working on an update and this will likley not be avaible to week 50 ( Mid December). So they've told me all I can do is wait until the update is availble and this should automatically happen but if it doesn't then will need to bring it back into the dealer for them to do a hard reset. Obviously was not happy with this and said there must be a way they can do a hard reset now to resolve the issue, as not only is the sos light on, the bluetooth won't activate in icognito mode and the sat nav is showing a place in Germany and won't pick up where the car actually is! But they said there is nothing they can do and they mentioned they've had at least 10 Ravals they've seen over the last few weeks with the same issues and all have been told to wait for the update to arrive on week 50.

I'm going to call another local dealer to see if I can get it booked in for a second opinion as what I have been told sounds crazy if its true and I don't feel I should wait until December for the issue to be resolved and thats counting on this potential software update actually fixing the issue.

Really unfortunate situation early adopters are in, sometimes you wonder, is it perhaps best to wait a year or so but tbh for me it was kinda a must to change now so couldn't have waited eitherway and Raval is the most interesting car for my needs by far.

I hope I don't have to bring mine back to dealer everytime there might be a software bug like this as the nearest one is 3 hrs drive away but the closest official Cupra service location again is like 30 mins away so much more manageable.

It seems odd that Cupra Assistance could fix it straight away at first, but now you are being told to wait for a software update in Week 50.

Also @James_R in post 56 above says that he can fix the issue in a few minutes with the right diagnostic machine.

Probably new information that the issue is down to software, so they want to go for that. In other words if they fix it, the issue will come back... so let's wait.

@jezyg no red lights on yours ?. Behaving itself ?. What release are you on if this is the critical thing, but it's probably what update all the systems are on, not just the infotainment. That's the issue people think of the infotainment but it may spill over onto other systems.

I can resolve the issue where vehicles haven't been successfully activated at PDI and the SOS light flashes red, but those vehicles where the LED is off and not flashing that will require the 6.0.* update that's currently being prepared for a vast array of issues is a different matter all together.

The temporary measure is to remove fuse SC19 for 10 seconds then recheck the SOS LED.

There's a few updates across the group projected for release on week 50.

My thoughts exactly, that's why I held back when I first bought the new SEAT Leon Cupra 280 (back in 2014) and the again I waited for my current car till all the probs that the Formentor was having where sorted, and guess what, never had a problem at all. Never done a software update yet and the car performs like the day I got it back in 2022.

I also wouldn’t be an early adopter. VAG hasn’t had a good track record in recent years with their new models; quite a few from early in this decade have been plagued with software bugs and gremlins. With some models (e.g. mk8 VW Golf) the perception by owners was that cars were launched before being fully tested, leaving early adopters to perform the role of beta testers and identify / report issues in the hope that they would (eventually) be fixed.

There’s a good argument for buying one of the last of an outgoing model which will hopefully be fully sorted and relatively problem-free……….🤔

Or the Ateca in 2016 which was one year on after they perfected the systems that it was based on, Tiguan mk2 / Golf 7. Golf8 was the MQB Evo / Formentor. Hence those issues. VAG is still perfecting "China speed" ;). They are learning from their partnerships.

SSP is the next one for 2029. That's the one the Cupra Batmobile will be on if they build it. A period of stability once they fix the MEB+ (Raval etc).

As someone who has worked in software development for over 30 years the one thing I’ve learned is that software, regardless of who built it, always has bugs. The other observation I have is that since COVID, when the world moved so much stuff to the internet, there hasn’t been enough good developers in the world so software is getting worse not better. Perhaps AI might improve the situation but I doubt it. Watched an interesting YouTube episode of Harry’s garage recently where Harry and Clarkson agreed that ‘peak car’ was around 10 years ago when new cars were good enough, reliable enough and fast enough, and had sat nav, air conditioning and most importantly no touchscreens to perform basic functions. I think they may be on to something … 😂
