I am waiting agonisingly for my car to be shipped, has been sitting at the docks or whereever for about 2 weeks now and my delivery time has now been delayed for a few weeks longer.

Does anyone know when the next ship is to be loaded and when its heading off to the shores of good old Blighty, many thanks.

afraid not.
it would also be interesting to know if it comes direct to the uk (would take longer to fill), or if it stops on the way round (portugal, france, holland, germany, denmark etc.)

any ship spotters read these threads?

I would guess your car is already built and if it is then your dealer will be able to tell you exactly when, my dealer told me, I even know the registration number although the car hasnt been shipped yet.

how can he give you a reg number when the car will not apear on the AFRL database until it consigns into his stock and it can only do this once the vehicle has landed unless you have a private plate? i would seriously question this!!!!

I think the shipments are weekly or less. They come into Hartlepool. (My offices are in Hartlepool.) They do a lot of prepping there before loading onto transporters for delivery to the dealers. The shipments seem to be increasingly fully mixed VAG, as are the road transporters. There are never a lot of cars sitting at the docks.

I've been on one of the boats a few years ago. (but at Teesport, not Hartlepool). They are like a floating multistorey carpark - incredible operation!

I simply asked the dealer if he knew the reg as I want to get insurance quotes and this it what he told me verbatim, ie word for word.

''Your car is still waiting to be shipped but this is the registration number that has been assigned to your car, KH07*** ''(obviously I wont put down the last 3 letters).

I dont really care what the reg is to be honest, I am not going to buy new insurance until I know the car has arrived in the UK anyway, so if the dealer has pulled the reg number out of his a**e then it doesnt really matter.

I wasnt expecting him to give me the reg either as it wasnt in the UK yet but he was very specific that the reg was for my car.

On another point how are reg's usually assigned anyway, do the dealer have some they hold onto or are they assigned by some other way/database.

If the shipments are weekly then I am confused as to why car is still sitting there since it was built on 26 April :-(

My dealer said the reg's are done online now, again, not sure how true this is.

I was always under the impression that dealers were allocated new regs in blocks. With computerisation these days, I suppose they can match an order to a VIN to a registration at quite an early stage.

Years ago, when I got my Alpine GTA, the Renaultsport dealer registered all the Alpines with a 00 reg so they were all 200, 300, 400, etc.

I had asked if I could pick out a reg from there listings, this is when he told me this, but also I think you are correct, as he said he will have so many to choose from

it is an on line system linked directly to the dvla through a system called afrl once the car has landed all its details are loaded on the the afrl system which is then accsed by the dealer who will then load all the customer details against the chasis number this will then randomly generate three reg numbers you can then pick one and asign it to the car although you can keep clicking refresh so it brings up three different regs each time

Was told today that my car is on the boat, in the middle of the Ocean mate. So, hopefully if it is true, then maybe yours is with it.
