No blower at all. could it be resistor pack?

Hi,
I've just picked up a '99 cordoba se (and said hello in the newbies area). Problem is the blower doesn't work at all. I took it out and it runs ok with 12v across it, the earth is fine but I couldn't get any voltage reading across the earth and +ve terminal where the +ve wire of the blower plugs into the resistor pack. What are the odds the resistor pack is dead and if it is what other models will have the same part to swap over?
cheers

old or new shape ? and aircon ?

fairly common failure but usually to lower speeds first so you only get max speed but then only just getting it may have been gone a while

a lot of models share the part - depends on model year etc though

it's a '99 1.4 se 5 door so I don't know if that's old or new shape, sorry
I've had resistor packs go before in my audis and it tends to work only on full welly. That's why i'm not 100% sure it's the resistor pack. I'm happy to take suggestions for other things to try though. Fuses all seem ok. Is there a relay in there that's associated with the blower?

cheers for replying to the post

old shape did have a tendency to have a fault with the switch gear also somethign on teh tracks used to bend/brake inside, happened to a few

if its old shape the dash will have 3 large dials across the middle

newer shape has a tv screen style dash

aha! definitely old shape without aircon then. Should the dial feel a bit loose when turning if it's knackered?
I'm guessing like audis if I opull off the 3 dials i'll find a couple of screws to pull that panel out and check?

dials should have a click feel to em - quite solid in fact so sounds like your dial may be loose/broke or at best cracked but never pulled one of yet as they are on well tight

if it's more drastic than that to get at the main unit itself you need to carefull lever off the trim around the dials from underneath and you'll see the 4 screws in the corners holding it to the dash from inside

to get to the rear of it unscrew the pocket or window switch panel under it (2 screws at top) so you can push the heater bit back and then slide it out down the lower hole

not easy or ideal as it's all still connected but at least there is better access if needed

just watch the outer trim, it's only clipped on but if you twist it too much all the illumination optic plastic will jump out, easy and logical to get back in as it's all clipped in but will make ya think 'oh F***' when you first see it all fall down - lol

this might help ?

haha. If I get to the "oh f***" stage I sometimes end up breaking the car. Shouldn't come to that though as I've just put a fresh MOT on it.

Cheers for that info and diagram. Looks very similar to the Audi 80 system (also a pain in the hole to work with) but I've a resistor pack and possibly a control unit on the way from another forum member Stu, who's breaking an ibiza, so I'll see how I go when those bits arrive.

Now I just need to find a driver's window motor...

what's the chances the window motor and frame out of this ibiza would be the same as my cordoba. seems to look the same bar the boot. same grill and headlights anyway

sweet! now to find someone who's not a greedy ebay breaker wanting £50 and postage. I do audi motos and mechs for half that. greedy :censored:

that's not bad actually. i'd pay that before I paid £50 for a second hand one anyway.

Got a window motor and frame from a scrappie with a couple of other bits and bobs for £25. Fitted it.. nothing. Turns out it was a broken wire in the loom between the door and body. haha. doh!

Blower problem was the control unit itself. The left most switch clicked nicely but can't have been making contact properly. New unit in and all is well.

Cheers for all the advice. I'm off to see if I can borrow a potracable thingy to see how shiney I can make the red paint. :D

hehe. damn right. I'll stick it on a shelf for later. At least it's all working now, that's the main thing.
