Noise From Brakes

Alright folks,

Not sure if any one has had any experience of this. I've got a mk5 Ibiza 1.6 (2009 - 09) and I've not been using it much recently. When I do take it out the brakes make a grinding noise, especially noticeable when I'm slowing to a stop.

It's done just over 9000 miles. I just had it serviced and asked them to check it over, they said they couldn't see any issues and it was probably just that it hadn't been driven and the discs picked up some dirt that would wear off. I've taken it out a few times since but the noise doesn't seem to be "wearing off".

Any thoughts?

Hi Techie,

Yeah it does appear to be coming from the back to be fair. Nothing to worry about then?

mine also does this. My dealer said it is surface corrosion because of the crappy weather we had. Apparently a lot of ibizas are doing it, but it is nothing to worry about. Should wear away after a while (mine has got alot quieter i think)

I´ve got the same thing. The dealer had it a week ago for checkup.. it was fine about 2 days then the noise came back =( Taking it back to their garage the 23th... its a known problem on the 1.6´s?

I think its on every model (maybe not with the racing brake option). If I was keeping the car I would get it checked out, but i am getting my FR in a few weeks, so I think I will leave it to the dealer to determine whether it is ""normal"" when they take it off my hands.

I think the noise returns when we get bad weather. Heavy rain brought the noise back for a couple of days with me. Was epscially annoying when we had the bad snow that lasted for weeks.

Yeah ive got it too. Definately a bit annoying, but not noticed any problem with the brakes performance which is the main thing i guess.

According to my dealer the 1.6 5-doors have different brakes than the 1.4 and they haven't had any problems on the 1.4.

My FR has had noisey brakes from day one. If you have the radio turned off, as you press the brake pedel gently and come to slow stop, you can hear a 'shooshing' noise coming from the brakes. The car has done 2.7k. Is this normal?

You guys should check it up at least.. Had the same problems on my last car, a leon fr -09. After some checking the result was the following: The brakepads weren´t the material they should hav been. (Crappy from the factory) They were way to hard and made big scratches in the rotors/discs. This led to a complete change of pads and discs on all four wheels. The dealer paid it of cours..

Mine does exactly the same until you have a sprited drive then it shuts up for a while.

Glad I posted this. Looks like a few people have had similar things which is kind of reassuring. Turns out I'm going to sell the car too so will have to inform any perspective buyers of it! :(

Mines been back to Dealer twice they agree the Pads are hard but wont change anything as they have said thats how they all are!

SEAT Sweden are obviously better!

For the people who have had this issue did anything in particular trigger it? I seem to remember that I left mine off the road for a while so I presumed it was some sort of corrosion building up on the disks or pads.

The strange thing is I'd left it still for over two weeks earlier in the year but there were no issues. It was only when it was cold and stationary that it developed the issue.

I've just not been able to get rid of it since...

I didn´t left my stationary as it was brand new;) From day one i heard a strange grinding noise from the brakes and the discs looked (and felt) like they were going to melt. They were kind of blue near the center and had deep scratches (0,5-1mm). This was after approx. 3000miles total on the car.
