Hi guys need some advice.

Had a new sachs uprated clutch and DMF on my tdi fr 150 and recently it started making a rattly/whirring chattery noise when the clutch pedal was pushed half way in and only occurs at a specfic area in the clutch pedal travel (goes away above and below that point).

Took it to mechanics and they said it was the clutch release bearing (I didnt have a new one fitted when the clutch and DMF were fitted 20,000 miles before).

After the new clutch release bearing was fitted the noise is still there... any ideas what is causing it?

I have the same problem as you, only started happening about 6 months after getting an upgraded Sachs clutch.
I brought the car to my local vw specialist and he reckoned it was something to do with the gearbox, possibly a worn bearing. He changed the gear oil at the same time and the stuff that came out didn't look that healthy.
I'm going to wait for it to get worse before I fork out for a recon gearbox, it's being at it for about 7 months now and not got much worse but it's annoying the hell out of me.
I'll be interested to here how you get on!

Yea I've only really noticed the noise about 2/3 months ago. How much is it roughly for a reconditioned box? Did changing the gearbox oil reduce the noise at all? I agree the noise is very annoying :(

I can get my own box reconditioned for about €450 (£380), that doesn't include labour removing and refitting the gearbox. I might look into getting a second hand box first and send my own one of to be refurbed at some stage.
Can really afford to have the car off the road for to long.
Do you get a rattle from the gearbox area when switching off the car aswell?

I havent noticed any rattle when switching off the car tbh. I notice your from Ireland buddy, if you get your new box fitted any chance I could have your old one to refurb?

If its a whirring noise or chatter these boxes suffer from it mainly in 3rd and people have ran them for years without any problems

My noise is when the car in in neutral and I put the clutch down half way, there is a noticeable rattle /whirring noise with a small about of vibration in the pedal...

If I get a good second hand gearbox in the near future il let you have my old box, but il prob just drive this one into the ground and get it refurbed.
Might try traynors scap yard up in your part of the country there usually good for spares.
It's hard to find a 6 speed box in this part of the country, all I ever see is 5 speeds.
