I've just bought a 2009 Leon FR and I love it...except it's the noisiest car I've ever driven. The cabin noise is unbearable i get into work everyday with a headache. The tyre/wind/exhaust noise is just deafening. My old mk5 fiesta was like a roller in comparison. Is it just me? Is there anything I can do??

I Just bought a 56 plate and I find the exact same way about it mate, I was just putting it down to the harder suspension as I came from a Renault Megane 1.5dci.

There's a lot of noise comes in through the boot floor (exhaust, wind and road). To lay some soundproofing there is very easy and quite cheap and that alone reduced the noise level on mine (Cupra) at M-Way speed by about 25%.

Had a 2010 FR (facelift) and that was better than previous 08 reference sport. ( pre f/l ) , that had a bone shaking ride. Might be worth checking a few things though,
Tyres - what size and make do you have? Some are noisier than others. Also check pressures.
Wind - check door seals, particularly drivers side. Check windows are closing fully. Check fit of doors, especially at the top.
Exhaust - is car petrol or diesel? Check if exhaust is standard.
Has car been modded in any way? Different intakes can make the induction noise obtrusive.
As Timsawf said, there is very little sound proofing in the boot, worth adding some, also under the back seat. If you do a search there have been a few threads on here about fitting extra sound deadening.

I have the same problem with mine, when I test drove mine I thought there was a serious problem with it :)

I just turn the radio up a bit now haha

It's a petrol dsg, 17inch wheels, not modded in any way. Got two new Dunlop Sport Maxx at the front and two newish cheapies on the back. If the noise comes as standard I'm seriously thinking about getting rid which is a shame as otherwise it's a great car.

Im not sure if a 09 FR would have a soundakator? That obviously artificially increases noise inside the cabin.

Just used some cheapish stuff from B&Q, and some spray glue.

The first photo not mine but shows how little there is actually there, before and after.

Mine is a MY10 and diesel DSG, Less noise the wife's old mk5 Fiesta.

Could swap your tyres front/back see if the noise changes..

I did mine too yesterday and does make a little difference. Need to do under the rear seats and make another layer in the back.

I'm gonna give the soundproofing a go and replace the cheap tyres. Will report back what difference it makes. Also the exhaust is noisy around 1200-1500 rpm - really boomy. I don't mind a racket if I'm booting it but with the DSG in automatic it keeps in very high gears which makes trundling round town very unrelaxing. Is this normal?

Not sure, most pics you see so have shiny side up, but not sure if it depends what way thw noise is coming from

I cant see it would be that different either but must be that way for a reason. One side might be absorbing the other reflecting sound back maybe...I really dont know
