On my way home from work tonight i came across a silver Scooby STI the nicer looking ones anyway i could tell he wanted to play and i turned my ESP off got onto a quiet road and went for it very impressed wit car as it fended off the STI once we got going obviously to begin with he was sat on my parcel shelf then i started to pull away.

However when it came to breaking i almost cacked myself as i have never felt my car do this it was twitching from side to side and felt really unstable now i know why i leave the ESP on and boy does it make a difference.

So to be on the safe side leave ur ESP on and to be even safer dont speed;)

at first he was glued and then when we got to 40-50 i started to pull away i would say though and bend or off the mark bye bye LCR 40-100(not that i got to that speed) i would say the LCR had it in the bag only just though

ESP is a god send as I found out in my friends LCR when he switched his off...dont think he did that again :)

not many lcrs have 301lbs ft of torque especially when the sti has 4 wheel drive to compete with once it gets going

you canNOT turn the Electronic Stability Program off!

you turn traction control off by pressing the ESP button! (hence the light on the dash!)

this is why the TC/ESP light can still flicker (showing its working!) when you have TC off!... ESP helped me out at brands hatch on one occasion even tho I had TC turned off throughout the day! :)
TC simply allows you to spin the wheels!

really the ESP button should be called the TC button!

The man has spoken :)

James, I thought ESP is partially switched off? I know there has been various threads on this but thats the impression I got from reading them.

well maybe is partly turned off... as in the sensitivity of it is turned down, but without doubt ESP is ALWAYS on as I have had it come on on a few occasions even tho I had TC turned OFF and the TC/ESP light on the dash flashed and then stayed light until i pushed the "ESP" button again to turn it (TC) back on and the light goes off! lol

Yeah i agree James but my car has never acted like that before so i guess it must disable a it of it to be honest i didnt see if the light was flashing was to busy concentrating

I understand what your saying ben, however I think your car swerved left to right under heavy braking because you obviously slammed on your breaks from a highish speed and it "UNSETTLED" the car... weight transfer made the rear end light hence the lack of grip at the rear and swerving!

I have had this feeling in other cars before with no TC/ESP! not nice lol

I always have TC off in the dry as it just saps the power if it detects even a minute amount of wheelspin and gives you slow starts! Never had TC on any other car so never needed it. Only leave it on in the wet to be on the safe side (I drive like a grandad in the rain!)

ESP is always on (I'm not sure if it's reduced or not but a lot of people seem to think it is).

The twitching you had under braking seems to suggest that you weren't braking in a straight line, with the weight shifting around in that case...
