Number Plate LED Bulbs

Hi Guys,

I'm starting to get a little frustrated - I've bought 2 sets of LED Festoon bulbs for the rear number plate on my MK2 Leon. Both have claimed to be SMD Canbus friendly bulbs to show up no error codes on the dash.

Both sets I have put in, they come on for about 5 seconds then go off and display an error on the dash saying bulb out!

Is it just my car or is there a particular brand/type of bulb I should be using for these? I thought that as long as they were SMD Canbus friendly, they would be fine - obviously not.

If anyone knows how I can either get these to work or has a link to bulbs that they have used or are currently using without any problems it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot

You want these!

Think there the same as the sidelights !
I've got them and perfect!
Just make sure when you've fitted them you lock car and then unlock and that will reset the system and won't show up as
light failure!

Mine match the Xenons perfect!

OP asked for rear number plate bulbs though and they are indeed the Festoon type.

I got some off Ebay and they worked first time and have never faulted.

Seller was Mylitco. Great service.

If you can't find them Leon MK4 post back and I'll try and get the full details.

Who did you get the ones you have now from?

Post a picture of the ones you have tried upto now?

Morning guys,

Thanks for the response, regarding the bulbs I have bought, here they are:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360349145071&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

It does clearly say that these are canbus error free - As I say, they do come on initially and to be fair, look very nice, but then after 5 seconds they go out. Am I doing something wrong, do I need to reset the computer or something?

I've changed the sidelights to LED and had no problems with them at all, they come straight on and stay on.

Cheers

I have had some LED Sidelight bulbs in before which "claimed to be error free" but I kept getting errors every now and then.

I changed them with some from Mylitco and they worked first time everytime, and touch wood, never faulted in what must of been 12mths. So, I saw their number plate bulbs and bought a pair, same again worked perfectly and not had any bulb failure warnings. (they do only go in one way, polarity has to be correct.)

These are like the ones I got, but I opted for just 2 SMD's as I had read of others having three and reporting they were a little too bright.

Is it the 36mm ones u need for the number plates? Does anyone know what the LED bulb i would need for the DRL's within my headlamp it sits just above the side light?

Cheers Craig.

Looks like you read my mind. I also bought some "canbus friendly" festoon LEDS. They come on and stay on, but after about 5 secs the warning comes on. Its just kinda annoying having the warning on constantly.

Did you fit them one at a time?

If not you may have one in the wrong way.

Fit std bulbs back in, make sure they are working. Then, fit one of these LED's and check if it is working, if not turn it around as they are polarity sensitive. Once working, fit the other.

Tried one at a time, checked polarity etc. still setting off the error light. :(

I feel like I've done you an injustice mate, what can I say. Worked first time everytime for me (goes off now to find some wood)

All I can suggeat Craig is contact seller, let them know you have tried both ways, and they'll probably send another set.

Wonder if the newer cars are more sensitive??? Wouldn't of thought so.

Suppose you could always switch off Cold Lamp Diagnostics, but if it were me I'd want it to be stock.
