Was wondering wats the best way to fix the number plate on to my leon, without it sticking out like a sore thumb, it has the aero bodykit. Id prefer not to use screws but if needed, how would I best disguise them?

Sorry if posted elsewhere, I couldn't find it!

Sticky pads from Halfords. Designed specifically for holding number plates on, so the hold pretty well! Saves you drilling the plate and bumper. Clean the panel where it's going with alcohol wipes or Isopropanol alcohol or something similar to remove grease and residue first.

Only issue is, is that they can easily be pulled off and used by criminals.

Surely most plates are stuck on these days............?

Most garages have gone back to screwing and sticking them, to try and make theft harder.

Certainly looking out into our carpark, every car i can see is screwed plates (all 56, 07, 57, 08 cars).

Not that bloody easy  I tried before using toothfloss on mine and they were on pretty good. Besides if the really wanted the plates that bad it also takes 2 mins to unscrew.

My car came with screw-in plates but because I do quite a bit of driving on the continent, I needed GB plates and I dont like the stickers so bought brand new plates at Halfords.

They gave me the pads to stick the number plate to the car and I bought an extra two packs to ensure that the number plate, if it were to be stolen, will at least make the life of the thief difficult.

Apparently its illegal for them to be stuck on!?!

Audi where I worked got picked up on it by the local police as they were sticking them on. They now screw them on.

Its certainly not illegal - literally just asked the policeman who was outside my house!

He also said to me that the police advise all motorists to provide additional protection, be it in the form of new breakable number plates, or in the form of screws.

Mine are stuck, but as an employee of the Police we do recommend they are attached via screws. Could always stick razorwire at the edges - should teach the crims a lesson, but just remember it's there when your cleaning :p

Last time I read the regulations on plates (about two years ago) its specificly said they must be screwed on.

Peronsally always stick mine though. However, after having a new rear bumper fitted from a body shop I got home to find my stuck on plate no longer stuck on! So, not sure whether the plastic section on the FR is a bad surface for stickers?

Mine were stuck on by Seat Dealer and were about to fall of after about 16K.

Maybe its me, why would you be concerned about drilling the body work? After all it is not like you can use the location for anything else, it is always going to be used for a number plate???

Whats the problem? Drill it, its the way forward!!
