Right - second schoolboy post I've posted in as many weeks  I've had a good search and couldn't find anything.

The paperwork came through to transfer my personalised plate to my Ibiza tdi Sport today and I can't get the orriginal numberplate off! I popped open the plastic covers but on each number plate there is one Philips screw and one sort of metal rivert thing. It looks like a screw with no taper marks. Anyone know how to get this off???

Why SEAT couldn't just put two screws on the damn thing I don't know - I suppose its to stop little hoodlums nicking your numberplate. Due to work I can't get to a garage for the next 4 days + don't really want to be driving around on the wrong plate for too long

Mines looks like its just screwed on... I hate that.

My Toledo plates were stuck on from new... I always stick on my plates - will be sticking mines on when I get it back :)

Is that really the only way to get it off  ?

Seems a bit involved for simply removing the numberplate!

I'm a bit worried that with my cack handed drilling skills I might damage the bumper behind the plate + will probably destroy the old plate in the process.

I was thinking that there would be some sort of allen key or something that would remove it.

with rivvits im afraid you have to drill them out, get a dril size that is roughley slighley bigger than the centre and drill at an angle and it will come off then!

it really isnt as bad as it sounds just be confident and your less likely to make a mistake it is easy!

Ok - cheers for the info Rash and Max.

Will get on the case tomorrow evening. Hopefully I won't end up with a couple of extra bumber vents :)

Yes - Mr Ladyman is the tw8t Labour MP who is trying to bring in this black box in your car style road usage charge. Him and Mr Darling (the Labour MP responsable for the massive influx of speeding cameras) are two of my least favorite people when it comes to all things driving [:@]

Anyway - back on target, finally got my number plate after much drilling. I think the whole saftey numberplate thing is a complete joke. If someone really wanted to clone a car or put a false numberplate on there are many other ways of getting them made up. Would of saved me a lot of drilling too
