It's arrived! And fitted! What a difference it makes, very, very happy with the outcome. I've not had chance to see if the soundproofing has made any difference - that's a job for 5.30am tomorrow on the way to work!

As requested and promised, a few photos

Lol, sorry for not replying earlier, been chasing my tail all morning. TBH I haven't noticed much of a difference in noise level, if anything, insulating the boot floor seems to have moved any sound more forward into the car. Going to put the last of the sound mats under the rear seat squab when I'm next off (Sunday)

If you're looking to reduce the noise levels in the car than you want sound-proofing (SP), not sound deadening (SD).

SP will reduce the ambient noise by absorbing sound waves and will make the car quieter inside. SD reduces the vibrations from the sound waves hitting the metal panels and vibrations from speaker movement which will improve audio quality.

You can get sheets that do both but they are generally thicker.

Dr Pinky can confirm Leyland, you don't have OCD. Car parts don't go on beds if you've got OCD. 😉

Craig is right about different ways to stop sound. I did the wheel well, rear panel, arches and under the rear bench in my SC. The subwoofer made every thinner bit of steel resonate. I used Dodo stuff. Combo of deadener mat and closed cell foam. It does make sounds from other sources more apparant.

Oh, you've got that one wrong :ROFLMAO: .....CLEAN, LIGHTWEIGHT parts, especially carpets, certainly do get opened and checked on a dry bed rather than a floor where dogs shed hair, or outside when it's wet and potentially dirty! If it had been the wrong one, it would have needed to go back in the wrapper without it getting dirty lol :ROFLMAO:

Forgot to report - it's obviously my hearing at fault - went out for a meal earlier after an unexpected early finish at work, and the first thing the wife said was how much less road noise there is in the car now.......I can't win! Still going to put the remaining sound sheets under the back seat when I get chance, there's no point in them just sitting in a box in the garage

It definitely helped when I did the boot floor in my ST, but it did seem to move the road noise further forward, which I think you mentioned, I'm doing under the rear seats soon though

Thing is, yes it will "move the sound" forward, because slowly but surely you are reducing certain frequencies and intensity.
If you feel the noise has moved forward, perhaps it's because you can now hear the noise coming from the wheel arches.
As the wheels turn, they cause vibration to come up the suspension and through the contact points, into the chassis and wheel arches will vibrate.
Strip back the carpets and trim, you'll see what I mean

Yeah I'm going to do more sound proofing and deadening around the car at some point, the boot was the main culprit so that got priority

If you REALLY want to beat the road noise, stick some closed cell foam inside the wheel arches, behind the liners, on the outside of the metal. That should produce a night and day difference.

The thing is, where do you draw the line? Need to find a nice balance between noise reduction and weight addition. Those sound deadening sheets are heavy when loads are added!

I'm looking at doing behind the wheel arches, you can tell the majority of the noise is coming from there.
I don't mind adding quite a few kg's to the car, lots of people probably carry more weight about with all the crap in the boot 😄
