thanks for all your supportive messages... i really do hope it turns out ok again. i searched for ages to find the one i wanted and traveled miles & miles...still things happen for a reason
anyone know where i can get some crank shells from? What sort of money are we looking at?

shells are as cheap as chips.
like i say,youll be better off rebuilding what you have as you know the history.
dont go wasting stupid money on a engine you know nothing about as so people have advised.your more than likely be buing into more problems than you have already

i want to rebuild this one, i think it will be the best way. just hope that i might get some luck and has'nt done to much damage.
...how do you even know what's wrong with it!? If that's original mileage at around 60k, then something is seriously wrong. I don't think we've got the whole story. The car must have been run dry of oil or simply the oil pump! The 2.0 16v GTi has a book figure top speed of 134mph, so if you were sat at the most at 100mph for a high period of time then it's hardly going to start the bottom end knocking.
All this talk of rebuilds etc, it's as if nothing mentioned so far has been listened to....talk about jumping the gun! Find out the problem, then the cause, then decide upon a solution....common sense!

Its does more than that, had mine bouncing off the limiter in 5th (it was going down hill at the time)

hehe, when they took it apart to assess its condition they more or less said it was shame to throw more less halve the components away

Also, what's the official engine rev limit of the 2.0 16v GTi?

I'd just chuck in a cheap ABF while rebuilding the 'old' one
larger outlay, but you'll get your cash back
im resonably lucky that a few family members can do the work for me, i feel sorry for the ones that have to pay a mechanic. hopefully soon be all sorted
