Anyone had an oil consumption done, how reliable are they ?

My March 2014 1.2 has now covered 15,000 miles & just used its 5th litre of oil, spoke to dealer who said it within spec but they would be happy to do oil consumption test, but need car a week, to drain & weigh oil drive 61 miles !! & re weight oil, not sure it will take a week though.

Bit of background I regularly travel a 280 mile journey for which 70% of journey is 75/80 mph, prior to journey oil is checked & topped up as required after journey oil checked again & normally requires about 200/250 ml.
BTW when checking oil engine is properly warm & checked after 10 mins from switching off, there are no external oil leaks nor does the car burn oil.

Also as car is being topped up so much, and seemingly always on fresh oil, checked when first service is due, which is 20,500 miles WTF !!!

If it was my car I would move up a thickness grade of oil e.g. from 0-30 to 5-40

If it still burns oil at the same rate I would put my bet on the the piston rings never having seated properly.

This seems way to excessive, also I would have thought it will have an effect on the life of the CAT too.

The official figures that seat give that are within tolerance are pretty high there is a TPI to follow for cases relating to this the first step is to drain and weigh the oil drive 40 miles (60km) and drain and weigh again the weight loss is then used to calculate the amount of oil used per 1000 miles.

Stange the 1.2 is not known for burning oil at that rate normally the 1.4 tfsi's with oil consumption issues

My 2013 1.6D has just done 8k... and the mark on the dipstick has hardly moved, ie I have topped up NOTHING in 2 years.... Id be worrying.

I have a1.2 tsi dsg and have not topped up at all on about 5000 miles per year over 2 years.

Did you have it from new and so know it was run in properly?

IIRC from the Ibiza discussions the acceptable oil use before they will actually do anything about it is very high.

1ltr per 1000km ( 625 Miles ) was quoted as acceptable oil use by SEAT, VW

Had this problem with my Skoda Fabia VRS as many owners of the VW 14 twin chargers some had new engines and some had rebuilds I P/X mine as it was using to much oil 1L every 500 miles.
