I've had my car around 18 months now and done a lot of motorway miles in it with the car not really missing a beat. Honestly couldn't have done better and used this forum a few times to research help to fix niggling little issues. Here is the latest one though:

The oil light came on last week which wasn't an issue as I haven't used the car so Sunday I filled the oil up and turned the car on let it run for a while but the light is still on and orange. Additionally before when I've been taking power very occasionally the engine cuts and then goes back into power, had thought maybe a clutch issue but these two together read that maybe the oil pickup is blocked. Anyone able to shed some light on this?
When I got the car I did a full service, filters oil plugs etc. I've done around 13k miles and it has since required refilling this will be the second time is that normal on these engines and like I say generally its motorway miles so sixth gear 50 miles a day.

Thanks
Sam

Could be as simple as the sensor but I wouldn't run it incase the oil pick up pipe or pump are not working you could cause major damage to your engine.

mk1 Leon cupra 1.8T 20v.

Yeah will leave it off for the time being and investigate this weekend. Might get rid of it after this as the mileage is too much in petrol shame as its most reliable car I've owned been brilliant.

102k so pretty good. Like I say love the car runs well but kids misses and new house means I should get a more family orientated motor. See what this issue is first, follow the guide I've pulled up on here and check sensor first.

If you have a blocked oil pickup, you would expect to see a flashing red oil light with corresponding beeps, indicating a loss in oil pressure so I would guess it's not a blocked pick up or a faulty oil pump. Having said that, there's nothing wrong with giving the pickup a clean. I used a scriber to clean out the crap in mine when it blocked and I used compressed air to blow it through afterwards.

Would be worth getting a code reader to see if that can give you some more info.

The warning indications on the dash oil lamp are as follows, according to the manual.

Flashing or steady red plus three beeps: low oil pressure.
Steady amber: low oil level. Stop and refill. Opening bonnet resets the oil level trip.
Flashing amber + beeps: oil level indicator fault

You say your's is amber - is it flashing or steady? The oil level indicator is in the bottom of the sump, and the connector is vulnerable, especially if you don't have an undertray on. Worth a look to see if it's come off.

I'm always perplexed when people post to say that the oil light went on so they filled it up.... oil light on usually means low oil pressure, which means stop, right now.

At the weekend i gave it an oil change and it turnes out the microswitch wasnt resetting on the bonnet. The oil level had dropped and ive done a lot of miles close to 10k since last change so was no problem doing that.
An issue now is that similar to a post a bit higher up im having power issues at all speeds in all gears. Sometimes when pulling off car stops taking power/misfires then goes and other times im going round the motorway at 70 and it does it again which at that speed feels like youve hit the brakes when of course foot is nowhere near the peddle. I did have the rac out a while ago when the car broke down and they changed coil pack so i think this time as its not on the side of the road ill get someone to run a diagnostics check
