I have read the Vag-com forum and I think I've got it.... Just wanted to run it through with someone in the Ibiza Mk4 section PLEASE!!

Its a tdi sport 130 (if that helps) 2003.

I have downloaded v 409.1 USB interface from Ross-Tech. And will pya for the licence, as I hear this gives more options?!...

And now would like to buy this lead:

Does this purchase seem ok? I have Windows XP also.

I'm this naive, but how do I find the socket under the dash to connect the cable, is it obvious?

No comment on the leads.

As to purchasing a license and registering, you get full operation of the 409 version of the software. You also get the right to ask Ross-Tech tech support for help.

man, this is not going well. My car code is 6L so according to the pics in the previous link the port should be under the mini glovebox under the light switch... but it ain't there.

Anyone got a mk4 that use vag-com?

Remove the mini glove box, it should be behind it. Think its purple.

I have a ebay lead. These are far east cheap hardware, but it does work and can help with simple tasks.

The newer lead from ross tech has a lot more options i think as well

Is it down to the lead then or is it the software which makes a difference? Will I still be able to see fault codes (hopefully there aren't any!) with a cheap lead?

It is both. The inexpensive leads that work with version 409, allow you to operate the 5 year old software we have on our website for free. In this shareware version, not all DTCs will be decoded into human readable statements so you will need the means to look up what the code number means.

Current version software (805) requires a Dongle style interface which can only be obtained from Ross-Tech or one of our authorized distributors.
