Olduns was right - they come in 3's - Indicators / Breaking

Right,

here it is my 3rd problem.

Now...when i indicate left when i am at a stand still its fine. When i am driving its fine.

When i have the indicator on and the brake the indicator stops flashing ????

Foot off the brake and it carries on flashing foot on and then stops..

Think i need to be booking an auto electrician.

Somebody's swapped your car for a 1980's Ford Escort!

You've got a pretty significant earth problem, which ties in with your speaker trouble as well. Basically the flashers are using a connection through the brake lights down to earth, this allows the flashers to work. As soon as you press the brake, the brake light becomes a 12 volt circuit, and 12 volts to 12 volts means no potential difference, and no flashers.

Find the dodgy earth strap, and you might find the answers to all 3 problems!

I am going to start by replacing the bulbs.....


i think there may be a problem with the dual lighting..

Dan,

It's likely to be the buld-holder rather than the bulbs themselves.

As Slimy has suggested, it's the same problem that was common on 80's Escort's.... my dad had one!

Whip the bulb holder out, and check all the tracks for corrosion etc, and if there is any shorting between them.

I'm nearer to 40 than 30 mate!

I remember the lights because one of the first Mondeo's that I ever saw on the road had EXACTLY the same issue even though it could have only been a few days old. I nearly crashed my car I was laughing so much!

Yeah like above sounds like an earth problem, also if you unplug the lights check for rust on the connecctions on the light cluster as i had a problem where if i braked the indicator came on, if indicated something else would come on etc. Might be worth a look?

i had exactly same problem... go in the boot next to the back lights theres an earth grounding point, check that all the cables with loops are on the pin and the nut is nice and tight... mine done it because i lost the nut after taking it of so were all lose and they did this...

I had exactly the same problem, and on the same side aswell.

I removed the bulb holder, removed all the bulbs and cleaned up all the connections on the bulb holder with alittle of wd40 and a wire brush. And cleaned the connections on the bulbs. Put everything back in and problem was solved.

There was abit of rust on some of the connections and now that its gone, it all works fine.

Had the black tray / bulb holder type thing out. Cleaned it and put all the bulbs back in...

now seems fine....

A productive day !
