As some of you may know i have been a member on here for a long time and did have a mk2 ibiza for 6 months then i spent 3 years modding a mk3 ibiza which got center spread in Golf+. After which i went on to built a mk2 golf race car which i did a full season in then sold it because of a drop in work/funds.
But now i have got me a mk2 ibiza which was meant to be a temporary car but i am loving it and have decided to turn it in to a nice track car.
So this is going to be my build thread.

I brought the car off of Dolly from this web site, i was standard apart from a spring and damper set and brembo discs/EBC red stuff pads. i then went and put it on the rollers at Badger5's. The car only made 115bhp :( so i had a read around and got me some k1 racing HT leads, platinum plugs, i modded the air box, k&n panel filter and then ran some redX through the car and cleaned out the oil breather system.
Back the bills and got it tested again... 157bhp :D
When the car was on the rollers you could see the engine moving loads on gear changes so i ordered a vibra-technics front race engine mount, also as i have booked a track day fro November i ordered a nuspeed rear ARB and some 15mm rear wheel spacers to help with the handling.

I have also ordered a polished and ported head ready for the next step

The next step "i hope" will be a 4 branch with 100 cell cat and custom cat back, some 272 ish cams the P&P head all run with a stand aloan managment.
This should give me some good power and i'll be able to tweek it to its best. Also with the stand aloan it will make it easyer/cheeper if i want to go turbo, supercharger or ITB at a later date.

I hope to go out to the ring with SC.net and clubgti next August so i want to get the engine done as above and the gear box rebuilt with a diff and smaller final drive before then.

Just a small update
I fitted my ARB on Saturday as you can see from the pic.

I also disposed of the big weight under the front drive shaft because it is 2kg and has no real use. i did the same on my mk3 and never noticed a difference.
I have also ordered 4 new jacking covers and rear towing eye cover as these are missing or hanging off.
Also my aux belt tensioner wheel is squeaking so i have ordered a new wheel and arm.

I cant fit my rear wheel spacers till i get some new nuts for my stud set because the nuts i have are angled and i need domed for the std wheels.

Have you noticed a difference with the ARB??

Hmmmmm auxillary belt wheel . Wonder if that is what is up with mine, what does the squeaking sound like?? Like a dry bearing??

Craig it makes hell of a differance with the rear ARB!

Olly, once you fit the front one the handling won't feel like it's a rails but it will feel more "balanced" Much like standard but grips 10 times better!

With your gearbox I would recommend you using the 4.2FD instead of the 3.94FD, I will fish out the web site I found it isn't stop on as I've found out (Said my top end would be 127mph but it's actually 120mph lol) but it does give you an idea of the differance between the 3.94 & 4.2 at 70mph and each gear!

Here you go, sorry if it's small! That is set to 8100rpm so let me know on what rev limit you want and 205/45 16" tyres

As dave said, it makes the front end seem like it pulls in to corners and helps cancel understear.
I had the same on my mk3 and the front one but again as dave said the front one didnt make as much of a differance.

With the FD do you not want to have some top end over 120mph for tracks like castle combe and snetterton.

Well I worked out 127mph at first so thought it would be ideal lol. Tracks like combe, rockingham, snetterton & silverstone would easily top out and tbh it does get there quick so thats the advantage!

It came with a 5.08FD from a VW Cup Corrado 16v but had it changed to 4.6FD.

I found the 3.94FD ideal when I had the cam's but when I had the throttle bodies fitted and it rev'd more the ratios were then more like the standard 3.68 where I would need 2nd gear to power out of a corner but would be very high in the rev's but 3rd would be out of the "power".

Everyday use & track use the 3.94 is ideal.... good on the motorway and works well with the set up of cams but I always thought I should have gone with the 4.2FD.

5.08FD  top speed of 50mph LOL

I think I'll go for the 3.94 because with cams, 4 branch, head p&p'ed and a stand alone should see me nearly 200bhp and that should do for a wile. Then gear box and handling and if i do go back to the engine i would prob go for a turbo on to the ABF so i don't think acceleration will be much of a problem then.
