Recently bought a new MK2 very standard Leon due to both affordability as well as work related. Will be sharing the progress of this car as much as I can. I tend to do mods quickly so here goes!

Car on first day of being bought -

I picked up this car almost 4 weeks ago so I have slowly been getting mods done. After the dechrome and tint I decided to do the calipers and 16 inch stock wheels myself whilst I waited to pick up some 18s as I knew it wouldn’t be until 2021.

Also changed the centre caps as the old ones were horrendous! Went for gloss black alloys and wheel caps with a Cadbury purple caliper colour to reflect the colour of the car! Pretty happy with the outcome for now. Can’t wait to get some 18s though!

Up nest was a dpf delete and remap.
I went from around 105 bhp- I’ve got the CAYC 105 - and made 140bhp.Also got my egr deleted. Very nippy now for a 1.6 diesel.
I know this is no where near some of the other projects on here but a modified car is still better than a standard car! The dpf delete and remap has made a difference day and night. At some point would like to get a hybrid turbo. Anyone got any insights to this would be helpful as still doing my research. Mines the 7 speed dsg gearbox also, forgot to mention.

Why bother upgrading the turbo on a 1.6?? You'll spend a ton of money and end up with what an FR makes as standard.

Are you not worried that you now can't pass an MOT having binned off the DPF and EGR?

your point is valid, i was thinking the same but it isnt in the pipelines at the moment anyway. would putting the cr170 turbo in not achieve 200bhp?
i mean it has been done before with the skoda yeti greenline over on the skoda forum! depends what it will cost me in the end, sometimes you can get a good deal..

dpf has been gutted out. mot wont be a issue here in birmingham haha got some good links!

People put the 177tdi turbo on their fabia 1.6tdis as it's slightly larger than the 170 turbo

My q3 sline has the 177 engine

Car was filthy inside and out. Lots of general roadgrime contributed to that! Seats were grubby and didn’t enjoy sitting on them so wet extraction was done. Do have plans for some upgraded Cupra or FR/MK5 golf leather seats in future however. Also debadged the Leon badges on the rear end. Here’s the before and after pictures.

Now I could’ve saved myself a bit of money had I done this properly the first time.. I decided the front tints were way too light and completely not contrasting with the back tints so got them redone. Fog lights were tinted as was the little quarter triangle panel in front of the front windows to get it that matching look. I’m a tints guy so got the full works done! Headlights and tail lights tinted in a medium shade. As well as this also decided to go for the now very popular chameleon tint on the windscreen which is legal and looks amazing? the only thing the chameleon tint does do is in the daytime it leaves some sort of yellow lighting visible on the dash. I don’t mind it and it isn’t a huge issue. But I believe it makes the front tints seem a bit lighter. Also wrapped the interior in gloss black and gloss black mirrors also done.

the arch gap in the wheels were absolutely horrific and i couldn't stand to continue to look at it, something had to be done right??

placed my order consisting of

vorgtland lowering springs 35mm even
10mm and 12mm hub centric spacers with longer bolts

car was lowered but met with some
Problems. The passenger side bolt ended up snapping on the wiper motor and I required new wiper motors. Was done gently but still snapped off. Went scrap yard found a new motor for £35 thought winner. Then the drivers side wouldn’t work? And that wasn’t even the problematic motor in the first place. Went back and got the other side and low and behold both started working so means they had to be paired.. now the only other issue I have which I did not have before is the wiper blades are not sitting flush as they used to. This is very annoying as everything is as it should be nothing is loose but they just won’t sit against the windshield correctly. Any advice ?

as for the lowering visually it looks amazing and I think it sits just right with the spacers also stancing it out. 18s to go on will hopefully fill the last of the gap up. A very nice drive now however my undertray scrapes on speed bumps unless I slow it down to 10mph or less.. gotten used to it as just not possible to always slow down that much. Cornering is much improved!
Will post the lowering pictures before and after below and also the wipers not sitting flush issue.

Final note - I was once a vxr owner and had a few other motors just non seat and got a lot of help/advice/compliments. Been a bit slow on here so far lol am I doing something wrong ? I know it’s nothing special but I love this tdi it’s superb on fuel but can also get you places quickly if you step on it! There is a lot to come with body kits and so on too ✅

Yeah, I'm liking the window tint too. I've got a 1.6 petrol I was doing up, but my sons now out in it most of the time so it's never on the driveway to actually do anything with.

Trouble is, the MK2 is quite an old car now and a lot of members have moved on to MK3s and some MK4s now. So there's less owners frequenting the MK2 section.

just been through your whole thread! Wicked mate.. love how you spared no details Especially at the start! I’ve already missed bits out that I have done but not included in the thread.. like my new car mats haha!
Yes of course, it does play a factor. Lot of people move onto better things but old is gold as they say.. and I love mk2’s. Although I was looking at the Mk1 FR pd150 too.. this was too cheap to refuse and I think it’s the colour too? not seen lots in this colour.

Needed a good scrub up after lots of shitty U.K. weather..leaving it nice and glossy! Also added wind deflectors to enhance the look a little more..

Up next I had to sort out the horrid B & C pillars as well as the rear quarter panels which cannot be tinted
Wanted to get the pillars from dealers but unfortunately could only get 3 rather than all 4. Decided to paint gloss black. As you all know the B pillars are a piece of cake but struggled with the C’s.. took a bit of time but got there in the end.
End result as shown -

Regret doing the rear quarters in Matt black now. I thought would be a good contrast. However now think both pillars and quarter panels would ideally look much better in gloss black. Oh well I will be getting the linea R grille soon anyway and then do that gloss black the rear badge gloss black and the quarter panels gloss black. Bit of orange peel on the pillars.. will soon get rid of that with some good old polishing

The wiper arm nut on the passenger side is left hand thread, you didn't wind it the wrong way did you?

IIRC it's also used to adjust the tension of the arm against the windscreen.

yes correct mate, i made sure it was winded left. however both side wiper arms dont sit flush not just the passenger!

yeah but before lowering, it was exactly in the same position adjustment wise. thinking to just maybe try changing arms and see if that works.

also the wiper motors have changed and i believe were out of a pre face lift leon so maybe its that?
