Operation Sound Proofing :)

After reading a lot of reviews I thought it best to go and tear the car apart and add some sound proofing,

First I started in the boot after pulling all the trims out this is what was there



As you can see not a lot!
and under the rear seats



And I also took off the tailgate trims too to find this



Now I can see why the road noise is so bad in Leon's!!

Got a load of this

Which even with next day del was only £55 for 15M2
only down side to this is its not self adhesive so spray glue is needed.

Started to cut and shape the underlay



Covered the boot floor, quarters and rear panel and put all the trims back



added too the tailgate and trim




And added under the rear seat too



This is what I have done so far, I plan to do the four doors and bonnet, this only took me around three hours to do this too, and the first drive up the road and the difference is great, its like switching your radio from front to rear speakers cant hear the road noise from the back

So I nice cheap way to sound proof your leon, hope this helps anyone thinking about doing the same, will add the door next weekend if it don't rain !!

No not at all i could have fitted a second layer and still been ok

I am also thinking of doing this but was going to used some "closed cell foam" that is listed on amazon. It has adhesive on one side and is 10mm thick.

Questions for allbutt55
- Do you think 10mm will cause any issues when refitting the trim?
- How much is required to cover the boot and rear arch area?

Was it easy enough to remove all the boot floor and seats?

It's dead easy, I've had mine out before!

The seat bases just need a bloody good tug from the front.

All the boot trim comes out pretty easy - it's obvious how it comes apart when you start looking!

The stuff i used is very cheap £55 posted i have not even used 1/4 the roll yet but i plan to do my van too
If you used the 10mm stuff the floors would be fine but it maybe an issue in the doors,
I got the stuff because its made to reduce sound and is made of rubber, very thin 4mm i think and water just runs off it!!
About 2m2 would be plenty to cover the boot floor it just made sense to buy the whole roll as not much more money!

The whole roll 15m2 weighs 36kg
I think i have added about 2kg so far
