Hi all, right I'm annoyed at the fact my cars getting more and more stone chips on the bonnet on the way to and from work, 70-80 mile journey down country lanes... Also wake up this morning to find a crack in the paint on my bonnet, as if someone's leant on the front of the bonnet! (house is next to an alleyway near a pub) so I'm a little annoyed, options are to either buy a new bonnet, carbon fibre wrap it and the roof, or buy a bonnet bra....

It's a platinum cupra and I've found an Image of a car similar to mine with a bonnet bra on and it doesn't look too bad...
Im getting my alloys refurbed black in September and the bumper in a body shop so a cracked bonnet is really gonna annoy me.

Just wondering what you thought on them really

Bonnet bra if the paint is already damage.

You will find theres a lot of people that don't like bonnet bras and a few that do (marmite modd) me my self I quite like them on VAG cars anyway plus I think it looks better than a wrapped bonnet.

I'll haft to say I like them! They are a marmite mod but some cars suit them and some don't , but I think the Leon does suit them along with most vag cars! It's a personal choice really, personally I prefer bein different so I'd do it!

I'll be honest I usually hate them, think they look crap on certain colours... And sometimes they only suit certain cars, But it's not too bad on the platinum colour I thought otherwise I wouldn't usually consider it.
The crack in the paints gonna annoy me knowing its there if I don't do some thing about it so I might buy one just for now

don't like the look and as for protecting paint, think they do more damage by trapping water and scratching the paint if the move around abit.

1. They actually cause damage, the paint gets scuffed by the fabric and by any road dirt that gets washed in.
2. The paint under the fabric fades less than the exposed paint.
3. The two triangular weights look ridiculous, and can't be good for airflow.
4. The overall look is vile.

Bonnet bras...

I have one, don't really know why I bothered. For protecting from stone chips they do but to fully protect from stone chips on front end you'd need a full front end bra and sumthing to go right up the bonnet.

You can get clear protective wrap but it's expensive and if not applied correctly is really obvious it's there. Plus you don't get the same shine you do from a freshly waxed paint.

The bra itself won't cause damage itself unless you leave it on all the time. If you do it will get dirt under it which with the vibration of the car will be like sand paper. And moisture will be trapped under it where it won't dry naturally and will eventually cause rust to form on exposed metal. Plus a bra only protects the leading edge of the bonnet, so sods law like me you get chips above the bra.

What iv found your better todo is just take the hit on stone chips and get you bonnet re-sprayed every couple years( or every winter in my case)

It's been raised and disputed a few times, always seems to get mixed opinions (also known as arguments) going.

I'm not a fan myself, this as Derek (drka-drka) said, save the money and get it resprayed every few years. If the damage is already there then you're probably best to get it done anyway before even considering a bonnet bra.

you should be publicly flogged if you fit on of those gastly leather jobbies, you can get a clear plastic film/vinly that will do just as good a job and not make you look like a massive tossa,
