Sill Guards

Hi

I tried to buy some outer sill gaurds, but unfortunatly they only sell the inner ones for the Leon.

Still bought them and they look brilliant!

Although the Leon sign could be bolder.

Cost - £85

Fitted time - 10 mins

Door Sill Guard - Attachment procedure:

1. Go to B&Q, buy a cartridge tube of EVO-STIK 'Serious Stuff' Ultimate Strength Adhesive (Black coloured tube) + skeleton gun.
2. Before applying adhesive, work out exactly where you want the sill guard to line up on the door sill. When in position, apply masking tape onto the door sill at one end of the sill guard to provide a straight edge to guide you later.
3. Remove the sticky back tape cover.
4. Apply a small bead of adhesive in the centre of the sill guard, starting and finishing about 1 inch from each end. I applied a zig-zag bead rather than a straight bead.
5. If you over apply, the excess adhesive will be squeezed out onto the door sill. It is black and can make a mess.
6. It is ok to apply the adhesive over the double sided sticky tape.
7. Hold the sill guard about 1 inch from the door sill, and line the end up with the straight edge you made with the masking tape.
8. Press the sill guard onto the door sill, apply a little pressure for 10 secs.
9. WARNING - this adesive is described by EVO-STIK as 'grab adhesive' and it certainly does what is says on the tin! You will get one shot.

My sill guards have been on since Feb and are still firmly attached.

Rich, how did you get hold of the sill protectors I am having real trouble through SEAT and my new Cupra will be arriving very soon! I have got the part numbers from SEAT.com but my local dealer told me that SEAT uk won't supply!

Dave, if you're in the channel isles, surely a trip to the nearest french dealers would yield results, if so, I think that you would generate some interest in a multi-buy, I for one would buy a set....
As I've been informed by several dealers, these outer plates "Have not been approved for RHD cars by Seat", my repeated question was/is, if these are approved for european cars, why are Seat UK dragging their heels in approving certain parts that are freely available in mainland europe, (such as the sport grille, which all the dealers informed me was no longer available to order in the uk....)... After all the uk is in europe, (last time I looked anyway), so who in Seat uk is responsible for this ridiculous mess....

If yor having problems getting the door trims to stick try using carpet tape will stick to just about anything.

France is a good idea but don't have any spare time for the trip and I can't speak French!

My local dealer told me that the probably reason for the UK not having these is the quality approval!!!!! I've seen the trims and I think they are spot on so that sounds like rubbish. My dealer even asked if they would get some especially and SEAT UK said NO!!!!!

Dave,
I have purchased all my non-Seat UK approved parts from IBEX Parts in Spain, and I must say I found them to be extremely good. Fast enquiry reply, fast delivery, correct parts, well packaged etc. Their website is www.ibexparts.com.

Simply complete the request form with the parts you want. They email back a quote, you pay by credit card, and they send the parts, couldn't be easier.

As well as sill guards, I also bought the chrome instrument surrounds. Have a look at thread: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=113691
IMO these really sharpen up the appearence of the instrument facia and are easy to fit.

Part numbers (and prices quoted by IBEX):
1P0071510 - Door Sills (Outer) with Seat Sport Logo.....Euros 100.90
1P1072311 - Chrome finish gauge cover.........................Euros 42.77
Transportation cost UPS..................................................Euros 30.00

Let me know how you get on. Rich.

Got a phone call from Seat uk on Friday, the upshot of the call was that I'd sent a somewhat sarcastic e-mail to Seat suggesting that they read this thread and move to approve the part(s) asap, the tone that the chap used was frankly very condesending/patronising, but in essence he said that the parts need to be assessed for safety and would not be available in the foreseeable future, my response was what safety issues are there with sill plates, and why sell the inners without the matching outers, it doesn't make sense and frustrates many Leon mk2 owners, tough titty (he said) either Spain or ebay, no other options available, utterly wonderful customer service, as usual.....

Safety my A~~E come on who do SEAT UK think they are kidding, I get the feeling that the owners are more into the cars than they are!

I have seen the sill protectors before and they look the dogs dangles! and I am sure that SEAT SA or even AUDI AG would not allow accessories to be made for their cars that do not meet any safety or quality standard!

If SEAT UK are that concerned about some sill protectors slipping through the quality net then why oh why do so many customers have problems with their cars and end up hitting their heads against a brick wall, come on SEAT UK get real listen to the customer and offer what the rest of Europe offer![:@]

Sorry about the out burst just annoys me that I had to find someone on ebay just to order a set of sill protectors for my new Leon Cupra, by the way little bro ordered some for your Leon Cupra as well!!

Just looking on the SEAT-FACTORY website, I'm torn between having stealthy Black or Blinging Silver

Do I pay the £50 they cost opt for black, which nobody will notice, or do I have bling bling silver ..........
