can anyone confirm if this has any effects on anything other than the dash reading of outside temps?

had a quick look but not much in the way of info on this one.

Outside air temperature sensor has no connection to the ECU. It is solely for your own amusement.

The ECU gets the charge temperature from the inlet air temperature sensor, which is in the inlet trunking after the intercooler.

The Climatronic has a sensor on the inlet side of the cabin air blower, which tells it the inlet temperature. There are three temperature sensors in the cabin that are used by the Climatronic to decide whether to blow hot or cold and where to do it.

The only influence that outside air temperature has on the cabin air system is that the cooling compressor will shut down if it gets below 3° or so, but I don't know if it gets this from the blower inlet or the outside temperature sensor.

I should see a doctor if I were you . . .

Oh, you mean the outside temperature sensor on your Mk.1 LC has gone mad?

What symptoms is it showing? Low, high, random readings, no reading at all?

It's in the front bumper, somewhere close to the nearside fog light. A small plastic sensor with a rounded end, clips into a round hole. In the standard bumper it looks like this:

Now, what brought that on? At least I don't end every sentence with a bang!

From what I can tell just looking at diagrams, it's in roughly the same location i.e. offside front bumper near to the foglight. It seems to be mounted behind the grill, so I assume the Mk.2 foglight grills allow air to flow through, unlike most of the Mk.1's.

Ibiza's are based on the Polo, and I guess the Polo puts the sensor in the mirror.

Leon's are based on the Golf, and they all have the outside air temperature sensor in the front bumper, close to the nearside foglight position.
