Outside air temperature sensor has no connection to the ECU. It is solely for your own amusement.
The ECU gets the charge temperature from the inlet air temperature sensor, which is in the inlet trunking after the intercooler.
The Climatronic has a sensor on the inlet side of the cabin air blower, which tells it the inlet temperature. There are three temperature sensors in the cabin that are used by the Climatronic to decide whether to blow hot or cold and where to do it.
The only influence that outside air temperature has on the cabin air system is that the cooling compressor will shut down if it gets below 3° or so, but I don't know if it gets this from the blower inlet or the outside temperature sensor.
