Overheating '98 Cordoba 1.4SE

Hi all,

Not had the car long, but it has started overheating. I changed the thermostat yesterday and it still seems to be overheating, I am guessing either an airlock or the water pump, and ideas. The radiator isn't getting warm when it overheats and the header tank fills right up. The top pipe into the rad gets red hot and quite hard to squeeze and the bottom pipe stays and and easy to squeeze.

Thanks

There's no F in Quality..
Sounds like the thermostat to be honest.....

Try taking the 'new' one out and putting it in a mug of boiling water.... if it 'works' then it should open in the boiling water, and then close again when you take it out.

It has been known for 'new' thermostats not to work!

Turns out it was that when the old thermostat had gone it had managed to break the cap, locking shut all the time, replaced the cover (£11.50 from SEAT Dealer) and seems to be running fine.

Cheers for the help.

I had the same problem and it turn out to be the instrument panel that gave the wrong temp , I unplugged the battery for 30 minutes and plug it back , turn on the contact but not the car , and let it be for 5 mns , and the problem was fixed.
