There's a couple of huge threads on Pistonheads for Cupra leasing, a few days ago I pulled up into Coscto car park in my MK2 Golf GTI and noticed 9 Golf R's parked up which doesn't sound a lot out of a car park of maybe 400 cars but if you think about it, in 1990 if you saw 9 MK2 Golf GTI's in the same car park it would be special.

Me being me decided to look at all their number plates and most of them had lease company names at the bottom. Golf R and Cupra are churned out on cheap lease deals these days, especially compared to other cars like Audi S3.

So my question whats the ratio on here for Lease vs PCP/HP vs Owned outright.

Il start, originally my car was on a PCP but is now owned outright.

You sure they weren't the overflow from the VW dealer next door?

Owned outright is closest for me, I have a personal loan for half the cost of the car, the remainder was my trade in.

PCP for me. Good to have the option of buying outright if I decide to do some mods down the line and turn it into a personalised car that I can keep for as long as I like.

Nah they do occasionally park cars but they park them in the corner near the dealership, these were all spead around the car park and very few of them were on K or O plates. (K for MK or O for Oxford).

BTW this all stems from a discussion I had on Facebook last night, A guy wanted to buy a Clubsport S and was trying to be convinced why he should/shouldn't

my comment got the most likes "everybody will know you haven't leased it"

Leasing has it's pro's and con's and ultimately it will suit some more than others. It's brought performance cars available to a wider audience, whether that's a good or bad thing is endlessly debatable.

We leased this time, as the deal was far better than the PCP we had on the 280. Due to change next July, will decide which we to go then. As we change every 2 years, so never really 'own' one anyone.

Lease deals to me certainly suits people who change there cars every 2 to 3yrs. In the past I used to have a personal loan and own the car but like most people when I payed the loan off I wouldn't keep the car I would just start again.
PCP you pay more monthly and usually a bigger down payment and 9/10 end up trading the car in after the period ends.
Also buying a new car is the depreciation of the car over the first 3yrs say the new cupra cost you 30k in 3yrs would be worth half that so a loss of 15k over 3yrs unless of course you kept the car for ever and a day which I don't.
The lease deal I have it will cost me 10k over 3yrs so to me a saving of 5k over 3yrs rather buying it.

I have to have a car for work that is less than five years old.
I get a decent car allowance to be honest for my type of job, so happy with the arrangement.
The amount of miles I do ( or did anyway) then it is just a case of managing the cheapest way to fund a decent car for my mileage. For me I have done it through leasing. First an Exeo, then a Leon FR.
In an Audi S4 next, thought I'd throw a bit of my own money at it this time and have something special for a couple of years.

Lease for me. Toying with the idea of purchasing car when lease is up in 12 months as car has been fantastic and ticks all the boxes for me. If the price is good I will buy outright. Anyone have experience of buying vwfs lease cars?

Bought an ex demo so great deal and paid in full cash. It's the way I done the last 5or6 cars, that way I have all my wages to me on pay day.
