Basically driving back home tonight and a really weird sound started happening which i think is coming from the roof of my 2001 ibiza cupra.

The best way i can explain the sound is like a sheet of metal rattling/bouncing around hitting the actually shell (roof) of the car...
When applying pressure to the head liner inside the car the sound gets quiter...

Now i've never ever heard anything like this and am a bit confused on what to do.. Should i remove the head liner and have a look underneath? and has any one else experienced this before?

Any info would be appreciated!!

Cheers
Marty

Mate, have you owned the car for a long time? Or any other seat before?

Everything shakes bounces and makes noise lol.

My roof rattles pretty much since i bought it. Noticed that when I give it a 'gentle persuasive tap' the noise stops haha

you could take the lining off although I never bothered. Am much too busy with all the other sounds, like shaking doorpockets and third brakelight haha

There is/was a known fault on the MK3 Ibizas. The dont attatch the roof skin properly to the main brace across the roof so you get a tinny rattling. 'Quick' cure is to drop the headlining down and pack the brace with foam.

Haha Reuvers you guessed right this is my first seat :p

Otherwise thanks techie i will get on it and stop it as it's actually giving my a headache within 2 minutes in the car.

hehe

i have a very anoynig squeeking coming from my center consol. Whats more annoying is that if i place my finger on any part of it it stops squeeking, so can determine where its actually coming form! Ahhh the joys of cupra ownership!

same as mine that

same thing

Ah, I have the same annoying vibrating sound from the roof. Right, Im off to get some foam!

ive got the same roof rattle....i keep telling myself im going to sort it but just cant be bothered with all the hassle of removing all the trim...

roof lining is off - that wasnt so difficult!

Right, the roof lining is off and I am trying to find which part was actually vibrating. i noticed that the arial wire wasnt secured (could be flapping against roof) so Ive taped that to the roof to make sure it isnt that. Where abouts is the bit that vibrates, as Ill get some polystyrene on that as well?

oh, and the trim was quite easy to take off. Not looking forward to putting it back though!

I think I'll put it down to the aerial wire not being secure. Also put some corragated cardboard in between the roof and center brace and taped down in case that was it. Regardless, the vibrating roof has now been silenced ;-)

Think its normally from the brace that comes loose somwhere see a thread on it before someone had sorted it on there leon using a hand towl or somthing...??

Now my roof rattle is no more...:)

:censored: though because now i have a 1 inch gash in my drivers seat i was going from outside to inside etc and didnt noice the red handled scredriver on my red seat sat down and "rip"

But on the up side now the roof doesnt rattle no more i can hear all the other rattles so much better...
