Paintwork Problem

I've posted before about the paintwork on my car after a re-spray when someone drove into the side of my car, but the more I look at it the worse it seems.

The whole (passenger) side has been sprayed but it's just not as shiny as the other side. Running your fingers over it you can notice the slight 'ripples' that aren't there on the other side.

Now, it's barely noticeable and I'm probably making a fuss about nothing but now I know it's there I want to do something about it.

Does anyone know anyway I can sort this problem out, other than taking it back and moaning.

you could always try buffing it out your self,but tbh i would take it back to the garage let them sort it....

My car is in the bodyshop havin all the side resprayed due to someone hitting it.Just hope my paint work comes back alright if not it will keep goin back til its done.Should do a good job they had it for 3 weeks already.Fed up with drivin round in a nissan micra.

Do you think it's something that can easily be sorted? Should it just be a case of buffing and polishing?

I don't want to take it back only to find it needs to be painted again.

Id take back if ya not happy with it tell them to sort it out you shouldnt have to pay any more for it you should have warranty on the paint work.If you try polishing it you might void the warranty on the work they did.

It went back about a week after they did it and they polished out what I could see as problems.

After that I've not really noticed, but when the sun comes out you can see it more. As a result it's been over a year now so I'm not sure any warranty will still stand.

Most spray shops should have a 3 year warranty.When i get mine back its got a 5 year warranty with it.So take it back and see what they say befor spending money on havin it done again.My dad got his car 2 weeks ago and i reversed it in to a parked car the other day so its in bodyshop now.They said he will have a 5 year warranty on the work thats been done.

not been funny but take it when the suns on it, if it ever comes out lol!.show them the problem and tell them your not happy with it.and that you can even feel the ripples they will put it right for you.if you have never buffed paint before i wouldn't bother doing it ur self ..end of the day mate it's your pride and joy and theres nothing wrong in wanting a top job doing...get them told

Do you have any pictures of the problem? I'm not quite sure what you mean as ripples? I'd have thought if anything it'd be the filler underneath! That'd explain why the paint isnt as shiny - paint doesnt shine quite as well over filler as it does on metal, and that'd explain the ripples....

This will be the so-called orange peel effect (probably). Might be difficult to get rid of once it's got clear lacquer over it, so might be a case of rubbing it down and respraying again. One for the garage who did it I think if the finish doesn't match the rest of the paintwork.

If it is orange peel, flat it back and polish it up! Jobs a good un.

It's definately not the filler, because it's a brand new door. I will take it to them next week and see what they say... Just need to find the invoice for the work that I put in a safe place!
