Can anyone offer some advice…

Pan sunroof on my 2016 Cupra ST has decided to part open and won’t close. There was a crack as it opened so maybe come off a rail or something?

Is it a main dealer job, or would a local garage take a look, going to have to gaffa tape the gap in meantime which will be a good look ?

Need to find an engineering-minded, old-school mechanic. Appears the glass needs reseating/persuading back into where it should be. Then you can at least use the car whilst considering the remortgage.

A 3k bill to replace the entire sunroof mechanism is a poor show and a grift.

Thanks for the advice man. I tried calling ten different garages who are independent including 3 VAG specialists. They all seemed really hesitant about taking on the work and said they were booked up for a month or more. A lot of them didn't want to touch it and two outright refused so I was a bit stuck. Probably because of the risk of the glass breaking...I've watched the video and I could probably do the work but the risk of smashing the glass and possibly writing off the car I don't want to touch it myself.

I've just replaced the wing mirror in this car [so I'm relatively practical] after someone stole the glass and bent the mirror back to get at it (parked up while wife was at work) they broke the motor... made an awful noise twice then died.

Anyway I called the insurance company and initially after refusing to sort it they are going to register it as a claim... I lose the 400 quid excess and no claims bonus I've had since I was 19 (Im 35 never had to claim on insurance).

Onwards and upwards I suppose... or sideways if you are my glass sunroof.

If serviced at SEAT (or possibly an Independent), the panoramic sunroof is part of the cars service schedule. This would include cleaning/re-greasing runners, unblocking drainpipes, etc.I guess this is what could happen over the years if it doesn't get looked at during a service.
