Door unlocks ok when using VCDS (actuator tests) but does not unlock with key fob! I have to lean over and open it from inside. But since it works OK with VCDS I'd have though the hardware is working OK. Any ideas?

Have you tried double pressing the unlock button? Is it just the passenger door or the rears too?

Any fault codes in the central locking module?

HI thanks for the reply, a double blip still leaves the passenger front door locked , rear doors unlock OK. No codes logged. Works perfectly when commanded from VCDS !

No it does not unlock the door from the centre console.

But further, I checked...I was incorrect - VCDS was in fact not unlocking the door, the status showed 'unlocked' but it was actually not.
So I think I just have a mechanical lock failure. Shame, they look tricky to get out! Gotta do the whole window reg. I think?

It's not that hard to remove the door lock module, I replaced my rear drivers side door lock over a year ago. I'd suggest to unplug the cable from the door lock model before you remove the door card as the wiring is attached to the door card and when you remove the door card it might snag and pull.
You should be able to get to the plug on the lock module after removing the door card panel.
A new lock module cost me approx £125 from SERE.

This should help: http://www.no1wok.co.uk/cupra/rdp.pdf

Oh, you might need a spline socket set as well to remove a few of the bolts.

Hi,

Since you have VCDS, please try the following: unlock you car and open the offending door from the inside. At this point you will be able to open the door from the outside also, correct?

If so, go into VCDS and disable the SAFE function on that door. Save, etc.

Afterwards, lock, unlock and see if you can open it from the outside.

If successful, please keep in mind that the 'deadlock' for that door is disabled. This way you could save some money until you replace the lock in the future.

Interesting, I will give that a go thanks. Just learning VCDS (got it yesterday for a hot start issue) so more than happy to have an extra play with it. I will let you know results.

I'm having a similar issue, double click to unlock all doors but my nearside rear door doesn't unlock (can't open from outside)
Once open from inside first then will operate from outside as normal.
Seems the mk5 have this issue too an like said above replacing the module solves the issue.

I'm struggling to understand the binary coding layout when re coding the door controller. I need to do some more research!
Is it simply a matter of adding the number of the feature you want to activate to the number already in the controller?

This is not my image btw, I nicked it off the net

Yes, but you should only add each number once. So if you're intending to add a number to your existing code you need to be sure it hasn't not already been added to make up the current code. To find out what parts your current code consists of you do a bitwise comparison on each of the available numbers in the list.

For instance, the number in the picture you posted (0004406) is made up of the following options:-

0000002 -> Ambient Mirror Illumination installed
0000004 -> Mirror Turn Signals installed
0000016 -> Automatic Run active
0000032 -> Mirror Heater installed
0000256 -> Seat Memory installed
0004096 -> Folding Mirrors installed (MY 2008+)

If you're having trouble working out what options you currently have, post up your current coding and the list of numeric options for that coding on your car and I will tell you which ones you currently have coded.

I am having a similar issue with my driver door. Using the key fob does not open it but will open with the key. Also, the auto door locks is no working - you hear it clicking at less than 10mph but never locks the doors.

Anyone suggest a fix?

First thing you should do is to get a VCDS scan done on your car to see if any faults relating to the door locking actuators have been logged.

Thanks. Excuse my ignore re VCDS but would I need to go to a dealer for this? If so, how much would that roughly cost?

You have a few options:-

  1. Go to a dealer / VAG specialist and get them to use their diagnostics kit to scan your car. You will most likely pay for an hours labour so it will depend on their rates.
  2. Find a forum member near you who has the VCDS kit and get them to do a scan for you for a few beer tokens (you can ask in this forum).
  3. Buy your own VCDS kit and do it yourself (information HERE and a list of authorised UK resellers at the end of this page).
