I'm sure I posted this yesterday?? Never mind, I'll try again lol.

My passenger side seat won't move - forward or backwards. I can't see any coins etc hidden in the runners, but as I can't move it, I can't see much either. Anyone got any ideas?

ta :)

There's nothing there that I can see which would be causing it. I can feel a bar underneath (which I assume is connected to the lever), but trying to move that doesn't seem to move the seat. Saying that, I tried to move the drivers seat doing that, and that didn't move either, but it moves using the leaver fine.

There are two bars - perhaps you found the wrong one. Groping from the rear, the first is straight - the one you want is further forward, and cranked - ie a kink in the middle. If you push this down by its middle bit (leverage needed, I think), it should release. It sounds as if the lever is adrift, but I'd expect this to be more obvious - 'come away in yer and, Guv! I've never done this, so E & OE!

I had the same problem with my passenger seat, tilts ok, but doesn't move forward or back.
Turns out a part had fallen off (looks like it holds some clips in place??).
It was what looked like a wire getting caught on the raised floor.
I managed to tuck the wire back into the seat and it slides along fine now.

Righty, I've had a good look with a torch and found the problem!

Which I guess must be the offending spring?

The question now is.... how do I fix it?? I obviously need to order the spring, but it looks like it will be impossible to fit unless I remove the seat. But I'm not sure I can get the socket into undo the funny bolts without the seat moving. Catch 22 situation....

This happened on my brothers car a few years back - pretty sure he managed to wangle the new spring on with needle nose pliers.

Failing that, are you able to remove the actual seat from the runners?

You'll need an m10 spline and a long extension for the ratchet. To access the bolts just move the seat fully back and then fully forward and your in ;)

From the photos, it looks as if the latch is lifted by the (missing) spring. If so, (and if there isn't one on the other side), perhaps you could poke with a suitable implement, and lift the latch that way. I picture a long pointy screwdriver or similar. Thinking further, even if there are two latches, one each side, the other is presumably working, so the method should still work.

*cough* she *cough* ;)

Yes, it looks like it works that way. I couldn't get it to lift when I tried to move it with a screwdriver when I found it on Sunday, but I'll have another go.

I went to the local SEAT dealer today and the parts guy couldn't find the missing spring on ETKA and decided it must come as part of the whole seat. Personally, I think perhaps he's a bit rubbish.... you must be able to get the spring, surely??

BTW - I wasn't suggesting that you carry the long pointy screwdriver at all times - just a way of moving the seat to either remove it as suggested, or fit the spring in situ, also as suggested. The spring itself doesn't look too fancy - I reckon you can find a sub in the junk box (if it's like mine!). The fairytale about it only coming with the seat is even worse than the Ford and Vauxhall badges!
