I know this will have been covered before, however i seem to have zero luck with the 'Search' function on here.

Anyhoo, i like to keep a litre of oil in the car at all times, especially with doing long journeys. Can someone please advise me which oil i should be using in my PD 170?

This would be greatly appreciated.

Best oil to use for pd170 is castrol edge 5w30, which is 507.00 specified vw oil. Garages use quantum 5w30 507.00 vw approved.

Have a look at the castrol edge

Will say in the small print 501.00/507.00 vw approved.

Hope this helps :)

Nah mate. You get pretty big discounts on hear from opie oils. Another really good oil that is the leader in the market just now is millers nanodrive 5w40. It isn't vw approved but it is recommended for all engine designs due to its nano properties. Giving more power, economy, protection. It was over £100 for 5 litres. Opie oils are selling with discount for just over £50. I'm using it on my 2+ tfsi and it is very good. No oil consumption. Smoother starting etc :)

The 5 ltr longlife III is only about £32 from a local TPS.

Costco (not all have the same stock) have a 4 litre Castrol Edge for about £28.
